  1. 1. Revisiting dental caries as an immunodeficiency disorder

    Författare :Nongfei Sheng; Nicklas Strömberg; Anders Esberg; Thomas Boren; Anna Westerlund; Vuokko Loimaranta; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; caries; immunodeficiency; proline-rich proteins; DMBT1; S. mutans; adhesin; SpaP; Cnm; Cbm; collagen binding; caries risk stratification; precision dentistry;

    Sammanfattning : Worldwide, dental caries is the major human chronic disease, with billions of people affected in terms of life quality impairment and high society costs that consumes 5-10% of the global healthcare budget. In Western countries dental caries has declined dramatically, with a trajectory of 15% high-risk individuals with recurrent caries and a non-responder behavior to standard prevention. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Assembly and alignment in cellulose nanomaterial-based composite dispersions and thermally insulating foams

    Författare :Pierre Munier; Lennart Bergström; Aji Mathew; Steve Eichhorn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cellulose nanomaterials; composites; assembly; alignment; x-ray scattering; foams; thermal insulation; mechanical strengthening; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Research on nanoparticles extracted from renewable and highly available sources is motivated by both the development of functional nanomaterials and the drive to replace widely used materials based on fossil resources. In particular, cellulose, in the form of cellulose nanomaterials (CNM), has attracted increased attention for the development of sustainable and high performance products, thanks to properties that include high specific mechanical strength, chemical versatility and anisotropic thermal conductivity. Författare :Varvara Apostolopoulou-Kalkavoura; Lennart Bergström; Tatiana Budtova; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thermal conductivity; cellulose nanomaterials; foams; hygroscopic; super-insulating; phonon scattering; moisture uptake; heat transport; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Biobased super-insulating materials could mitigate climate change by minimizing the use of petroleum-based materials, creating artificial carbon sinks and minimizing the energy needed to maintain pleasant interior conditions. Cellulose nanomaterials (CNM) produced from abundantly available cellulose sources constitute versatile, highly anisotropic raw materials with tunable surface chemistry and high strength. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Nanocellulose based 3D printed hydrogel scaffolds for cartilage and bone regeneration : Tuning of composition, pore structure and functions

    Författare :Sahar Sultan; Aji P. Mathew; Lennart Bergström; Gustav Nyström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nanocellulose materials; 3D printing; gradient biphasic hydrogel scaffolds; metal-organic frameworks; hydroxyapatite; cartilage and bone regeneration; osteochondral scaffolds; materialkemi; Materials Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Biobased-materials with customized scaffolds have played a prominent role in the success of tissue engineering (TE). Cellulose nanomaterials (CNM) isolated from the abundant biopolymer, cellulose, is explored in this thesis for TE engineering due to its versatile properties such as biocompatibility, high specific strength, surface functionality and water retention capacity.
