  1. 1. The Informed Gaze : On the Implications of ICT-Based Surveillance

    Författare :Baki Cakici; Magnus Boman; Nina Wormbs; Markus Bylund; Harald Rohracher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ICT; discourse; surveillance; design; sustainability; outbreak detection; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Information and communication technologies are not value-neutral. I examine two domains, public health surveillance and sustainability, in five papers covering: (i) the design and development of a software package for computer-assisted outbreak detection; (ii) a workflow for using simulation models to provide policy advice and a list of challenges for its practice; (iii) an analysis of design documents from three smart home projects presenting intersecting visions of sustainability; (iv) an analysis of EU-financed projects dealing with sustainability and ICT; (v) an analysis of the consequences of design choices when creating surveillance technologies. 2. 2. Towards practical and provable domain adaptation

    Författare :Adam Breitholtz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Privileged information; Domain adaptation; Generalization; PAC-Bayes;

    Sammanfattning : One of the most central questions in statistical modeling is how well a model will generalize. Absent strong assumptions we find that this question is difficult to answer in a meaningful way. In this work we seek to increase our understanding of the domain adaptation setting through two different lenses. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The resource model of political participation 2.0 : Protesting in semi-authoritarian regimes – A privilege of the privileged

    Författare :Elizaveta Kopacheva; Per Strömblad; Giangiacomo Bravo; Gil de Zúñiga; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statsvetenskap; Political Science;

    Sammanfattning : Transitioning to and sustaining democracy cannot be possible without active citizens joining protests, distributing political information, or representing fellow citizens in legislative institutions. Due to this, political-science research for several decades has tried to investigate why some citizens are involved in political decision-making while others prefer to refrain from it. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Data and Time Efficient Historical Document Analysis

    Författare :Florian Westphal; Håkan Grahn; Niklas Lavesson; Angelo Marcelli; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer Systems Engineering; Datorsystemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Over the last decades companies and government institutions have gathered vast collections of images of historical handwritten documents. In order to make these collections truly useful to the broader public, images suffering from degradations, such as faded ink, bleed through or stains, need to be made readable and the collections as a whole need to be made searchable. 5. 5. Visual Representations and Models: From Latent SVM to Deep Learning

    Författare :Hossein Azizpour; Stefan Carlsson; Barbara Caputo; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Computer Vision; Machine Learning; Artificial Intelligence; Deep Learning; Learning Representation; Deformable Part Models; Discriminative Latent Variable Models; Convolutional Networks; Object Recognition; Object Detection; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Sammanfattning : Two important components of a visual recognition system are representation and model. Both involves the selection and learning of the features that are indicative for recognition and discarding those features that are uninformative. LÄS MER
