  1. 1. Regulation of TGF-β Signaling by Post-Translational Modifications

    Författare :Peter Lönn; Aristidis Moustakas; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Petra Knaus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TGF-β; Smad; PARP-1; PARG; ALK5; SIK; signal transduction; transcription; post-translational modification; phosphorylation; ubiquitin; ADP-ribosylation; DNA-binding; receptor degradation; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling is initiated when the ligand binds to type II and type I serine/threonine kinase receptors at the cell surface. Activated TGF-β type I receptors phosphorylate R-Smads which relocate, together with co-Smads, to the cell nucleus and regulate transcription. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Post-translational modifications in DNA base excision repair : The roles of CK2 and PARP-1

    Författare :Cecilia Ström; Thomas Helleday; Hans Krokan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; base excision repair; single-strand break repair; PARP-1; CK2; XRCC1; mammalian cells; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Base lesions and DNA single-strand breaks (SSBs) are very common types of DNA damage. The base excision repair (BER) and single-strand break repair (SSBR) machineries both require a succession of enzymatic events in order to remove these types of endogenous lesions and to restore the DNA. 3. 3. SUMOylation is a post-translational modification regulating skeletal muscle pathophysiology

    Författare :Gabriel Antonio Heras Arribas; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The research of this thesis is focused to investigate the role of SUMOylation, a protein post-translational modification reaction, implemented to the skeletal muscle pathophysiology area. SUMOylation is regulated by an enzymatic cascade of coordinated events capable of the reversible attachment of the Small Ubiquitin-like Modifier (SUMO) on to the targeted proteins. LÄS MER

  4. 4. New fractionation tools targeting elusive post-translational modifications

    Författare :Celina Wierzbicka; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molecular imprinting; Molecular recognition; Phosphopeptides; Proteomics; Phosphotyrosine; Phosphohistidine;

    Sammanfattning : Protein phosphorylation is a reversible post-translational modification (PTM)playing a central role in numerous biological events including disease pathogenesis.Thus, the analysis of phosphoproteome is crucial for understandingcellular regulation processes and can facilitate the development of new diagnosticand therapeutic tools. 5. 5. Post-translational and therapy-induced modifications in rheumatoid arthritis

    Författare :Dimitrios Makrygiannakis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by synovial proliferation and excessive mononuclear infiltration leading to destruction of bone and cartilage, with subsequent joint deformities and physical disability. Even though RA etiology is still unknown, autoantibody driven pathogenic mechanisms are considered to be important, with strong evidence for the pathogenic potentials of antibodies directed against citrullinated antigens.
