  1. 1. Post-translational modifications in DNA base excision repair : The roles of CK2 and PARP-1

    Författare :Cecilia Ström; Thomas Helleday; Hans Krokan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; base excision repair; single-strand break repair; PARP-1; CK2; XRCC1; mammalian cells; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Base lesions and DNA single-strand breaks (SSBs) are very common types of DNA damage. The base excision repair (BER) and single-strand break repair (SSBR) machineries both require a succession of enzymatic events in order to remove these types of endogenous lesions and to restore the DNA. 2. 2. Mismatch repair deficiency in colorectal cancer : prognosis and prediction for basic treatment strategies

    Författare :Ioannis Gkekas; Jan Novotny; Karin Strigård; Richard Palmqvist; Ulf Gunnarsson; Christian Sturesson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; defective mismatch repair; prognosis and prediction; Oncology; onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a significant healthcare problem worldwide, being the third most common cancer and the fourth most frequent cause of cancer death. Environmental and dietary factors such as alcohol abuse, cigarette smoking, and genetic predisposition seem to constitute the main aetiologies. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Oxidative damage and the DNA glycosylase MutYH

    Författare :Kristina Jansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxidative damage; 8-oxo-7; 8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine; Base excision repair; DNA glycosylase; Mismatch repair; DNA damage checkpoint; 9-1-1 complex; Glutathione-S-transferases; Colon cancer.;

    Sammanfattning : The DNA glycosylase MutYH is highly conserved throughout evolution, and homologs are found in most eukaryotes and prokaryotes examined. MutYH functions as a base excision repair DNA glycosylase that excises adenines misincorporated opposite 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG), one of the most stable products of oxidative DNA damage. 4. 4. AtZDP, a Plant 3' DNA Phosphatase, Involved in DNA Repair

    Författare :Isabel Valsecchi; Lars Rask; Per Jemth; Christer Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular biology; AtZDP; plant long patch Base Excision Repair; DNA 3 phosphate blocking lesions; DNA repair; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : DNA bases can be modified by endogenous agents (e.g. oxidized by products of respiration and photosynthesis or methylated by gene silencing processes) as well as by environmental agents (e.g. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies of DNA repair strategies in response to complex DNA damages

    Författare :Ainars Bajinskis; Mats Harms-Ringdahl; Bo Stenerlöw; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ionizing radiation; complex DNA damage; indirect effect of radiation; dimethyl sulfoxide; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to study the role of the indirect actions of γ-rays and α-particles on the complexity of primary DNA damages and the repair fidelity of major DNA repair pathways: non-homologous end joining (NHEJ), homologous recombination repair (HRR) and base excision repair (BER). The complexity of radiation-induced damages increases and the proximity between damages decreases with increasing LET due to formation of ionization clusters along the particle track. LÄS MER
