  1. 16. Cell death and signal transduction pathways in Alzheimer's disease : the role of presenilin 1

    Författare :Bogdan O Popescu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Mutated presenilins (PSs) may cause familial Alzheimer's disease (FAD) by altering neuronal signal transduction pathways, by increasing AP production or by triggering a number of proapoptotic mechanisms. The present thesis explores mechanisms by which PSs regulate signal transduction and cell death with relevance to AD. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Molecular aspects of cellular radiosensitivity in small cell lung carcinoma

    Författare :Florin Sirzén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :lung carcinoma; radiosensitivity; DNA double-strand breaks; DNA-dependent protein kinase; cell cycle checkpoints; apoptosis;

    Sammanfattning : To clarify some important molecular aspects of radiosensitivity (RS) in small cell (SCLC) compared with non small cell (NSCLC) lung carcinoma, five studies focusing on DNA damage repair, cell cycle checkpoints and apoptosis were performed. As repair of DNA double-strand breaks (DNA dsb), a critical DNA lesion, may be an important determinant of cellular RS, induction and rejoining of DNA dsb were studied using pulsed field gel electrophoresis in a radiosensitive SCLC line, U-1285 and a radioresistant NSCLC line, U-1810 (paper I). 3. 18. Cell therapy for denervated tissue

    Författare :Roine El-Habta; Ludvig J. Backman; Paul J. Kingham; Patrik Danielson; António Salgado; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipose tissue-derived stem cell; cell therapy; denervation; differentiation; myoblast; peripheral nerve injury; proliferation; regeneration; skeletal muscle; stromal vascular fraction; survival; tendon; cellforskning; cell research; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Peripheral nerve injury results in denervation of tendons and muscles. The biology of denervated muscle has been well studied but little is known about the associated tendons. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Apoptosis, cellular division or mitotic catastrophe? Effects of kinase inhibition and DNa damage in lung cancer cells

    Författare :Anna Therése Helén Hemström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells are generally characterized by a low response to conventional anti-cancer agents, such as DNA-damaging drugs. Treatments that induce DNA damage relies on cellular signalling resulting in the induction of growth arrest and apoptotic cell death. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Regulation of T cell apoptosis by calcium and zinc ions

    Författare :Shunai Jiang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis is a major form of cell death involved in fundamental processes in the mammalian immune system. Although extensive studies have been carried out to explore the mechanisms involved in lymphocyte apoptosis, a defined signaling pathway is still unclear. LÄS MER
