21. Development of quantitative optical microscopy methods for single cell analysis
Sammanfattning : Optical microscopy has brought powerful methods to biological research, in particular the possibility to assay dynamic molecular processes within living individual cells. This thesis deals with various aspects of fluorescence and Raman microscopy, such as the possibility of avoiding cellular damage or stress caused by illumination, how to manipulate single cells for spectroscopic analysis and how to quantify images automatically. 22. Constellation Shaping in Optical Communication Systems
Sammanfattning : Exploiting the full-dimensional capacity of coherent optical communication systems is needed to overcome the increasing bandwidth demands of the future Internet. To achieve capacity, both coding and shaping gains are required, and they are, in principle, independent. LÄS MER
23. Optical Spectroscopy on Correlated Electron Materials
Sammanfattning : Strongly correlated materials poses a great challenge to our microscopic understanding of matter, mainly due to the inability of perturbative methods to predict the properties of such materials. This inability stems from strong correlations between electronic, lattice and spin degrees of freedom, leading to a variety of complex and exotic phenomena such as (unconventional) superconductivity, metal-insulator transitions, non-Fermi liquid behavior and colossal magnetoresistance. 24. Synthesis and Optical Properties of ZnO Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : One-dimensional ZnO nanostructures have great potential applications in the fields of optoelectronic and sensor devices. Therefore, it is really important to realize the controllable growth of one-dimensional ZnO nanostructures and investigate their properties. LÄS MER
25. New innovative methods for non-intrusive optical diagnostics of high-voltage insulator materials
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this PhD thesis work has been to develop optical techniques that can help utility engineers for assessing the state of insulators in service and in a laboratory. The possibilities to use remote laser induced fluorescence for detection and imaging of biological growth such as algae and fungi have been investigated. LÄS MER
