  1. 31. Cognitive and motor dysfunction in the early phase of Parkinson's disease

    Författare :Magdalena Eriksson Domellöf; Lars Forsgren; Eva Elgh; Per Svenningsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease; Mild Cognitive Impairment; Dementia; population based; prospective; newly diagnosed; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic and progressive neurodegenerative disease. The diagnosis is based on a combination of the motor signs: tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity and postural abnormalities. Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is common early in the disease and a large proportion of patients with PD develop dementia (PDD). LÄS MER

  2. 32. Death mechanisms compromising hippocampal neurogenesis after status epilepticus

    Författare :Christine Ekdahl Clementson; Lund Neurologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; minocycline; lipopolysaccharide; microglia activation; status epilepticus; epilepsy; cysteinyl aspartate-specific proteases; apoptosis; neurogenesis; progenitor cell progeny;

    Sammanfattning : Status epilepticus (SE) leads to neurodegeneration as well as neurogenesis in the adult rat hippocampus. This thesis demonstrates that even if the neurogenic response initially is very pronounced, with a several-fold increase in cell proliferation, the survival of the newly formed neurons is compromised by a death mechanism involving mitochondria-related caspases. 3. 33. Transmethylation, Polyamines and Apoptosis in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

    Författare :Titti Ekegren; Håkan Askmark; Cecilia Gomes-Trolin; Sten-Magnus Aquilonius; Christopher Fowler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; neurodegeneration; transmethylation; polyamine; apoptosis; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a relentlessly progressive disorder characterized by degeneration of motor neurons in the cortex, brainstem and spinal cord. The patients usually die within 3-5 years after onset. The full etiology of ALS is unknown and many hypotheses have been proposed to explain the neurodegeneration. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Detection and haemodilutive treatment of cerebral arterial vasospasm and delayed ischaemia after Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Haemorrhage

    Författare :Anders Ekelund; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cerebral oxygen delivery.; cerebral blood flow; hypervolaemic haemodilution; isovolaemic haemodilution; transcranial cerebral oximetry; transcranial Doppler ultrasound; delayed ischaemic deficit; Aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage; cerebral arterial vasospasm; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with cerebral arterial vasospasm and ischaemia, a serious complication after aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage. Firstly is the noninvasive transcranial Doppler ultrasound and transcranial cerebral oximetry techniques evaluated in detecting cerebral arterial vasospasm in clinical practice. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Severe Head Injury. Evaluation of Acute Treatment and Rehabilitation

    Författare :Christer Eker; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; cerebral blood flow; neuropsychological test; assessment of motor and process skills; rehabilitation; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; intracranial pressure; Severe head injury; intensive care;

    Sammanfattning : Mortality after severe head injury can be considerably reduce with a therapy using physiological principles for brain volume regulation and preserved microcirculation, with the main purpose of restricting the rise in ICP to reasonable levels simultaneously with preservation of adequate blood supply. This study shows that the ?Lund Concept? can reduce mortality in patients with severe traumatic brain lesions from 47% to 8%. LÄS MER
