21. Hormonal Regulation of Neural Stem Cell Proliferation and Fate Determination
Sammanfattning : Stem cells have the capacity for both self renewal, and to form all cell types in the body. Interestingly, so called neural stem cells (NSCs) are found in the adult human brain, which is of significance both out of a developmental perspective and from a clinical point of view. LÄS MER
22. Long-term effects of acupuncture
Sammanfattning : In a retrospective follow-up study, n=202, long-term pain relief (>6 months) after a course of acupuncture treatments was found mainly among patients with chronic nociceptive pain while patients with neurogenic or psychogenic pain did not benefit much. In a placebo-controlled randomised single-blind long-term study with independent observer of chronic nociceptive low back pain, n=50, it was found that acupuncture, was significantly superior to true placebo in all outcome measurements, even more than 6 months after the treatment series. 23. Neurointensive care of subarachnoid hemorrhage : Clinical and neurochemical aspects
Sammanfattning : Neurointensive care (NIC) has gained terrain in the treatment of patients with various acute cerebral conditions. It is based on the concept that an unfavorable clinical outcome, to a certain extent, results from all secondary ischemic insults sustained by the brain during the acute phase of the disease. LÄS MER
24. Delayed Cell Death after Traumatic Brain Injury : Role of Reactive Oxygen Species
Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability TBI survivors often suffer from severe disturbances of cognition, memory and emotions. Improving the treatment is of great importance, but as of yet no specific neuroprotective treatment has been found. LÄS MER
25. Ischemic Cell Death in the CNS - applications of a new in vitro model
Sammanfattning : Ischemic brain damage is a common cause of death and disability. A global ischemic insult is usually the result of a transient cardiac arrest while occlusion of cerebral blood vessels leads to focal ischemic lesions, commonly termed stroke. LÄS MER
