11. Protein folding variants, for better or for worse? The lesson learned from HAMLET
Sammanfattning : By varying its secondary or tertiary structure a single protein can attain new biological functions. The amyloid forming proteins are the best known examples where a change in conformation leads to the formation of amyloid fibrils that accumulate in tissues and cause disease. LÄS MER
12. Starch in Processed Potatoes -Influence of Tuber Structure, Thermal Treatments and Amylose/Amylopectin Ratio
Sammanfattning : The potato is one of our most important food crops, being sold in its natural state or processed into a wide range of products. Starch, by far the most abundant component in the tuber, is greatly affected by heat processing. LÄS MER
13. On the role of the fusion protein DEK-NUP214 in leukemogenesis
Sammanfattning : The t(6;9) translocation is found in a subset of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and is associated with a poor prognosis. The translocation results in the formation of the DEK-NUP214 fusion protein containing almost the entire nuclear protein DEK and two thirds of the nucleoporin NUP214. LÄS MER
14. Development of fluorescence-based techniques for quantitative measurements of combustion species
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis covers how laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) and photofragmentation laser-induced fluorescence (PF-LIF) can be used to determine quantitative species concentrations in different combustion environments. To attain species concentrations with LIF it is of vital importance to investigate the influence of collisional quenching on the fluorescence signal strength, which can be done by measuring the fluorescence lifetime. 15. Physiotherapy in primary care for working-age patients with early back and neck pain. Screening tools, interventions and outcomes
Sammanfattning : Patients with back and neck pain are frequently seen in primary care, where they are directed to physiotherapy as first-line treatment. The condition affects both the individual, by causing pain and disability, and society, because of high costs caused by work disability and health care consumption. LÄS MER
