  1. 1. Control of human papillomavirus type 1 late mRNA stability and translation by an AU-rich RNA element

    Författare :Marcus Sokolowski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; HPV-1; HPV-16; late genes; 3´ UTR; L1; L2; c-fos; AU rich element; HuR; hnRNP C1 C2; mRNA stability; translation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human Papillomaviruses (HPVs) infect the epithelial tissues in humans and infection with certain high-risk types is associated with cancer. The expressionof the HPV late capsid genes is dependent on cell differentiation. This may be one reason for the lack of HPV replication in vitro. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Finding the unknowns in trans-translation

    Författare :Natalia Ivanova; Måns Ehrenberg; Nenad Ban; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; trans-translation; tmRNA; SmpB; kinetics; footprinting; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Ribosomes stalled on problematic mRNAs can be rescued by a mechanism called trans-translation. This mechanism employs a dual transfer-messenger RNA molecule (tmRNA) together with a helper protein (SmpB). In this work we have used an in vitro translation system with pure components to further clarify the roles of tmRNA and SmpB in trans-translation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. mRNA degradation factors as regulators of the gene expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Mridula Muppavarapu; Tracy Nissan; Per Sunnerhagen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mRNA decapping; mRNA degradation; Pat1; Edc3; Lsm4; Lsm1-7; P bodies; Dcp2; Transcription; Ribosome biogenesis; Exosome.; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Messenger RNA degradation is crucial for the regulation of eukaryotic gene expression. It not only modulates the basal mRNA levels but also functions as a quality control system, thereby controlling the availability of mRNA for protein synthesis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. EF-Tu and RNase E : Essential and Functionally Connected Proteins

    Författare :Disa L. Hammarlöf; Diarmaid Hughes; Måns Ehrenberg; Gerhart Wagner; Richard H Buckingham; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacterial growth; translation; EF-Tu; RNase E; mRNA; RNA degradation; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The rate and accuracy of protein production is the main determinant of bacterial growth. Elongation Factor Tu (EF-Tu) provides the ribosome with aminoacylated tRNAs, and is central for its activity. In Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, EF-Tu is encoded by the genes tufA and tufB. 5. 5. Accuracy of protein synthesis and its tuning by mRNA modifications

    Författare :Gabriele Indrisiunaite; Måns Ehrenberg; Suparna Sanyal; Jaanus Remme; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribosome; Protein synthesis; Translation; Accuracy; Release factor; Termination; mRNA modifications; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The ribosome is a large macromolecular complex that synthesizes all proteins in the cell in all kingdoms of life. Proteins perform many vital functions, ranging from catalysis of biochemical reactions to muscle movement. It is essential for cells and organisms that proteins are synthesized rapidly and accurately. LÄS MER
