1. Spinal mobility, muscle strength and function in patients with idiopathic scoliosis. Different aspects on long term outcome
Sammanfattning : Introduction: The long-term physical function outcome in patients treated for idiopathic scoliosis (IS) during childhood and adolescence has not been fully explored. In addition, there is a lack of studies where different methods to measure pulmonary function are validated in patients with early onset scoliosis. LÄS MER
2. Physiotherapy in primary care for working-age patients with early back and neck pain. Screening tools, interventions and outcomes
Sammanfattning : Patients with back and neck pain are frequently seen in primary care, where they are directed to physiotherapy as first-line treatment. The condition affects both the individual, by causing pain and disability, and society, because of high costs caused by work disability and health care consumption. LÄS MER
3. Software Solutions for Nuclear Imaging Systems in Cardiology, Small Animal Research and Education
Sammanfattning : The sensitivity for observing physiological processes makes nuclear imaging an important tool in medical diagnostics. Different types of nuclear imaging modalities, with emphasis on the software components and image reconstructions, are presented in this thesis: the Cardiotom for myocardial heart studies at the Karolinska University Hospital, the small animal Positron Emission Tomograph (PET) scanners for research and the SPECT, PET, spiral CT and Cardiotom demonstrators for the Royal Institute of Technology medical imaging laboratory. 4. Friction stir welding of copper canisters for nuclear waste
Sammanfattning : The Swedish model for final disposal of nuclear fuel waste is based on copper canisters as a corrosion barrier with an inner pressure holding insert of cast iron. One of the methods to seal the copper canister is to use the Friction Stir Welding (FSW), a method invented by The Welding Institute (TWI). LÄS MER
5. Computational Materials Design of Medium Mn Steels
Sammanfattning : Medium Mn steels (~ 3–10 mass % Mn), a new category of advanced high strength steels, attracted worldwide research interests recent years due to their excellent mechanical properties and low cost. These steels have fine microstructures and contain large fraction of metastable retained austenite (~ 30 volume %), therefore exhibit excellent strength and elongation. LÄS MER
