  1. 1. Nickel allergy and hand eczema : epidemiological aspects

    Författare :Anna Josefson; Birgitta Meding; Bernt Lindelöf; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; childhood eczema; contact allergy; patch test; population-based; predictive value; questionnaire; self-test; sensitivity; specificity; validity; wet work; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi; Dermatology and Venerology; Dermatologi och venereologi;

    Sammanfattning : Nickel allergy is the most prevalent contact allergy and has been discussed as a possible riskfactor for hand eczema. However, hand eczema is one of the most frequently occurring skindiseases and has multifactorial origin. The aim of this thesis was to study the association between nickel allergy and hand eczema in the general population. LÄS MER

    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; airline crew; aviation medicine; micro-organism; cabin air quality; air humidity; atopy; occupational exposure; environmental tobacco smoke ETS ; psychosocial work environment; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; arbets- och miljömedicin; Occupational and Environmental Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of the dissertation was to study the cabin environment, and identify personal and environmental risk factors, associated with symptoms, and perception of cabin air quality. Another objective was to study if ban of smoking, and increased relative air humidity on intercontinental flights, could have a beneficial health effect. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a progressive inflammatory disease that is characterized by the accumulation of lipids, infiltrated cells and fibrous elements in large arteries. This thesis focuses on the molecular mechanisms behind foam cell formation and inflammation, two central processes in the development of atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Monocytes, Tissue Factor and Heparin-coated Surfaces : Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Författare :Matilda Johnell; Agneta Siegbahn; Rolf Larsson; Jesper Swedenborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; monocytes; tissue factor; heparin-coated surfaces; coagulation; inflammation; thrombin; cytokines; cardiopulmonary bypass; biocompatibility; migration; chemotaxis; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is associated with inflammatory response and activation of coagulation. Heparin coating of the CPB circuit is shown to improve the biocompatibility of the surface. The biological effects of a new heparin surface, the Corline Heparin Surface (CHS), prepared according to a new principle, have been studied. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injuries are common (hospitalization incidence: 250-300 per 100.000 inhabitants/year) and a great majority of these injuries (80-85%) are classified as mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI/concussion). Many patients with MTBI (20-80%) suffer from subsequent persistent and often disabling symptoms. LÄS MER
