26. Monitoring persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in sub-Arctic and Arctic marine mammals, 1984 - 2009
Sammanfattning : The Arctic has become an important indicator region for assessing persistence and bioaccumulation properties of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This thesis is aimed at evaluating the occurrence of persistent halogenated POPs in seven species of sub-Arctic and Arctic marine mammals over a 25-year period. LÄS MER
27. New Materials and Improved Ambient Techniques in Mass Spectrometry
Sammanfattning : Mass spectrometry (MS) is used in several fields, e.g. biology, environmental monitoring, medicine and forensics due to excellent qualitative and quantitative capabilities. The development of new instrumental setups and ionization sources is crucial to analyze a variety of compounds at trace levels. LÄS MER
28. Mass spectrometric investigation of intoxications with plant-derived psychoactive substances
Sammanfattning : The flora of the world contains many plants and fungi with stimulant, hallucinogenic and narcotic effects. For centuries, many of these have been used in initiation rites, physical and spiritual healing and rites of divination. LÄS MER
29. New alkylresorcinol metabolites : identification, quantification and evaluation as dietary biomarkers
Sammanfattning : Alkylresorcinols (AR) are amphiphilic phenolic lipids that are extensively metabolized in the liver and form metabolites that can be detected in plasma and urine. Two AR metabolites, 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHBA) and 3-(3,5-dihydroxyphenyl)-propanoic acid (DHPPA), have been evaluated as urinary biomarkers of whole grain wheat and rye intake. LÄS MER
30. Monitoring primary carbon metabolism in plants using heavy isotope labelling and mass spectrometry : ¹³CO₂ labelling, detection and estimation in intact plants
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers the possibilities and limitations of studying primary metabolism in intact plants, with special focus on heavy isotope labelling and mass spectrometry methodology. In paper I, a series of Arabidopsis thaliana mutants lacking one or both genes of mitochondrial malate dehydrogenase (mMDH characterised) were characterised. LÄS MER
