16. Survival patterns and density-dependent processes in breeding mallards Anas platyrhynchos
Sammanfattning : Measuring and assessing vital rates such as births and deaths are prerequisites for understanding population dynamics. Vital rates may be affected by the density of individuals, even though the importance of density dependence on population dynamics has been debated for a long time. LÄS MER
17. Ergonomics at Home : Design for Safe Living and Home Care
Sammanfattning : The home should represent safety and security for the person who lives there, and this is an important factor for independence and autonomy in very old age. With aging populations, the needs for long-term care increase, care provided by spouses and/or from the growing home care sector. Injuries among these groups are common. LÄS MER
18. Some aspects of the Atlantic ocean circulation
Sammanfattning : The present thesis deals with the ocean circulation from two viewpoints: Pro primo, the dependence of the global thermohaline ocean circulation (THC) on the parameterization of the small-scale vertical mixing processes in the interior of the ocean, and, pro secundo, the dynamics of the circulation in the Nordic Seas. The THC is found be crucially dependent on the parameterization of the small-scale vertical mixing, two types of which have been compared: The commonly used constant diffusivity and a, physically more plausible, stability-dependent parameterization. 19. A new technique for postoperative pain management with local anesthetic after abdominal hysterectomy
Sammanfattning : An abdominal hysterectomy (AH) is associated with moderate to severe postoperative pain. In this thesis, a new technique for postoperative pain managment has been studied in 200 patients: local anesthetic (LA) was administered intraperitoneally (IP) after elective AH. LÄS MER
20. An object in need of protection but not a subject of rights? : A study on rights of children involuntarily placed in care in the Swedish welfare state
Sammanfattning : The practice of locked coercive care of children occupies a unique position in the Swedish welfare state. It is one of the most intrusive interventions into private life the State can practise, and the only welfare intervention that involves the use of coercion: firstly, through the involuntary placement of a child in a locked institution, and secondly, through the use of coercive measures, such as placement in isolation cells, body searches and restrictions on the use of mobile phones or internet.
