  1. 1. Novel aspects of Na+,K+-ATPase

    Författare :Oleg Aizman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Na; K-A TPase; PKA; PKC; dopamine; ouabain; cell attachment; Ca2 ; oscillations; steroid; transcriptional regulation; IP3R.;

    Sammanfattning : Na,K-ATPase, an integral membrane protein expressed in each eukaryotic cell, serves as the major determinant of intracellular ion composition. In the current study we investigated novel aspects of Na,K-ATPase function and regulation. It is well established that Na,K-ATPase activity is regulated by reversible phosphorylation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Na,K-ATPase as signaling transducer

    Författare :Juan Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : It is now generally agreed that Na,K-ATPase (NKA), in addition to its role in the maintenance of Na+ and K+ gradients across the cell membrane, is a signal transducer. Our group has identified a novel signaling pathway where NKA interact with IP3R to form a signaling microdomain. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Canonical and noncanonical transducers for calcium signaling : role of Na,K-ATPase and angiotensin receptor

    Författare :Zuzana Khorshidi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Calcium (Ca2+) is the most universal and versatile signal in the cell. This versatility is based on the speed, amplitude and spatio-temporal patterning of the Ca2+ events. The inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor (IP3R) is one of the main Ca2+ channels responsible for the Ca2+ release from the intracellular stores. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mathematical Models in Cellular Biophysics

    Författare :Jacob Kowalewski; Hjalmar Brismar; Erik Fransén; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Calcium oscillations; Diffusion; Dopamine receptors; Mathematical models; Computer simulations; FRAP; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Cellular biophysics deals with, among other things, transport processes within cells. This thesis presents two studies where mathematical models have been used to explain how two of these processes occur. Cellular membranes separate cells from their exterior environment and also divide a cell into several subcellular regions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Oxidative stress and calcium signalling : implications for diabetes and cardiac glycosides

    Författare :Mark Lal; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Calcium; diabetes; Na; K-ATPase; ouabain; oxidative stress;

    Sammanfattning : The signal transduction processes by which an individual cell is able to recognize and respond to its external environment are critical to determining its survival as well as that of the entire organism. In the current study we have investigated the intracellular signalling cascades activated downstream of two separate stimuli: the diabetic milieu and the cardiac glycoside, ouabain. LÄS MER
