  1. 26. Land Degradation and Climate in Iceland - a spatial and temporal assessment

    Författare :Rannveig Olafsdottir; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spatial analysis; long-term analysis; Holocene; spatial simulations; Iceland; Geology; fysisk geografi; physical geography; Geologi; land cover; farmers perception; Land degradation;

    Sammanfattning : Degradation of vegetation and soil erosion has contributed to loss of biological productivity and land degradation in Iceland. This thesis focuses on spatial and temporal patterns of land degradation in Iceland from a geographical perspective both along short and long timescales. LÄS MER

  2. 27. The Earth : climate and anthropogenic interactions in a long time perspective

    Författare :Jörgen Olofsson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anthropogenic; climate change; land use; biodiversity; carbon; dynamic global vegetation model; Holocene; pre-industrial; pollen; bison;

    Sammanfattning : The Earth is a highly complex and dynamic system. Life has shaped the entire planet and evolved in response to living conditions. Ecosystems are heavily affected by climate. Rapidly changing conditions imply considerable stress on several species and ecosystems, as well as to the most dominant species on the planet. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Testing palaeomagnetic and 14C based geochronological methods in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Bryan Lougheed; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; coastal; geochronology; palaeomagnetic secular variation; PSV; radiocarbon; 14C; reservoir age; R t ; ΔR; salinity; δ18O; geomagnetic field; Holocene; deglacial; Fennoscandia.;

    Sammanfattning : The Baltic Sea is a continental shelf sea that is influenced by both river runoff and marine water. The two water masses are vertically stratified in the Baltic Sea, resulting in a positive, estuarine circulation system, which has undergone changes in the past due to isostatic uplift of the Baltic basin. 4. 29. Pollen-based quantitative reconstruction of land-cover change in Europe from 11,500 years ago until present - A dataset suitable for climate modelling

    Författare :Anna-Kari Trondman; Marie-José Gaillard; Chris Caseldine; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pollen data; REVEALS model; model testing; land vegetation; land-cover; Holocene; Europe;

    Sammanfattning : The major objective of this thesis was to produce descriptions of the land vegetation-cover in Europe for selected time windows of the Holocene (6000, 3000, 500, 200, and 50 calendar years before present (BP=1950)) that can be used in climate modelling. Land vegetation is part of the climate system; its changes influence climate through biogeophysical and biogeochemical processes. LÄS MER

  5. 30. The colour of climate : A study of raised bogs in south-central Sweden

    Författare :Anders Borgmark; Stefan Wastegård; Ann-Marie Robertsson; Bas van Geel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Holocene; south-central Sweden; peat humification; bog hydrology; climate variation; spectral analysis; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on responses in raised bogs to changes in the effective humidity during the Holocene. Raised bogs are terrestrial deposits that can provide contiguous records of past climate changes. Information on and knowledge about past changes in climate is crucial for our understanding of natural climate variability. LÄS MER
