  1. 1. The colour of climate : A study of raised bogs in south-central Sweden

    Författare :Anders Borgmark; Stefan Wastegård; Ann-Marie Robertsson; Bas van Geel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Holocene; south-central Sweden; peat humification; bog hydrology; climate variation; spectral analysis; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on responses in raised bogs to changes in the effective humidity during the Holocene. Raised bogs are terrestrial deposits that can provide contiguous records of past climate changes. Information on and knowledge about past changes in climate is crucial for our understanding of natural climate variability. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Holocene climate change and peatland dynamics in southern Sweden based on tree-ring analysis of subfossil wood from peat deposits

    Författare :Johannes Edvardsson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; The Holocene.; Peatland development; Scots pine; Palaeoclimatology; Dendrochronology; Subfossil trees; Raised bog; Palaeohydrology;

    Sammanfattning : Dendrochronological analysis was applied to subfossil remains of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) buried in South Swedish peat deposits. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Subarctic ecosystem responses to climate, catchment and permafrost dynamics in the Holocene

    Författare :Ulla Kokfelt; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; subarctic Sweden; palsa mire development; peat; permafrost history; carbon and nutrient cycling; lake sediments;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis assesses aspects of the wetland development, permafrost dynamics and associated changes in carbon and nutrient cycling of the Stordalen Mire in northern Sweden. Various ecological and biogeochemical analyses of one peat and two lake sediment sequences were conducted, including analyses of organic matter and carbonate content, mosses, diatoms, testate amoebae, pigments, carbon and nitrogen and their stable isotopes, near infrared spectroscopy and biogenic silica. 4. 4. Water level management of wetlands in response to current and future RCP climate change scenarios : A mesocosm experiment within climate control chambers

    Författare :Shokoufeh Salimi; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peatland; constructed wetland; water quality; carbon dioxide emission; ; drought; nutrient release;

    Sammanfattning : Wetlands are integral components of our natural environment since they provide many critical ecosystem services to humanity, such as water purification, climate change mitigation, flood control, and biodiversity. Although wetlands can convey resilience to some degree of changes, they might be vulnerable to climate change. LÄS MER
