  1. 1. Climate, Conflict and Coping Capacity : The Impact of Climate Variability on Organized Violence

    Författare :Nina von Uexkull; Erik Melander; Hanne Fjelde; Jack A. Goldstone; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; civil conflict; communal conflict; climate change; climate variability; Sub-Saharan Africa; Kenya; geo-referenced event data; agricultural dependence; vulnerability; Peace and Conflict Research; Freds- och konfliktforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding the conflict potential of climate variability is critical for assessing and dealing with the societal implications of climate change. Yet, it remains poorly understood under what circumstances – and how – extreme weather events and variation in precipitation patterns affect organized violence. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Boreal Forest Wildfire in a Changing Climate

    Författare :Johan Eckdahl; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boreal forest wildfire; carbon emissions; nutrient cycling; nitrogen; microbial community; plant community; climate chnge; secondary succession; Sweden; Fennoscandia; biodiversity; boreal skogsbrand; koldioxiduttsläpp; näringscykling; kväve; mirkobiellt samhälle; växtsamhälle; klimatförändring; sekundär succession; sverige; Fennoskandien; biologisk mångfald;

    Sammanfattning : The boreal region contains 40% of the earth’s carbon (C) that is stored in vegetation and soils with its forests accounting for almost 30% of the terrestrial C sink. Boreal forests are experiencing some of the most rapid rates of climatic warming and increases in fire activity, threatening to release large amounts of their dense C reserves to the atmosphere. 3. 3. Diurnal variation of stratospheric short-lived species

    Författare :Maryam Khosravi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chlorine monoxide; short-lived species; Arctic ClO; diurnal variation; tropical middle stratosphere; Arctic stratosphere;

    Sammanfattning : Diurnal variation of stratospheric short-lived speciesMaryam KhosraviChalmers University of TechnologyDepartment of Earth and Space SciencesAbstractThe depletion of ozone in the stratosphere has a direct impact on the amount of ultravioletradiation reaching the Earth’s surface. The ozone abundance and distributionis controlled by the photo-chemical reactions and catalytic cycles involving halogens(chlorine and bromine), odd hydrogen and odd nitrogen species as well as by atmospherictransport. Sammanfattning : Climate Change is caused by the accelerated increase of anthropogenic greenhousegas emissions to the atmosphere and affects all ecosystems on our planet. A resultof higher CO2 uptake by the oceans as well as an increase of heat trapped in theatmosphere leads to, for example acidification, stratification, sea-level rise, oxygenloss, and temperature increase of the earth’s waterbodies. 5. 5. Radar Measurements of Temporal Variation in a Boreal Forest

    Författare :Albert Monteith; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; remote sensing; temporal variation; tomography; antenna array; temporal coherence; Synthetic aperture radar SAR ;

    Sammanfattning : Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) on a satellite platform is a suitable technique for all-weather global monitoring of forest parameters such as biomass. This is important for increasing the accuracy of the global terrestrial carbon flux, the largest uncertainty in our current understanding of the Earth’s carbon cycle. LÄS MER
