  1. 1. Modelling regional climate-vegetation interactions in Europe : A palaeo perspective

    Författare :Gustav Strandberg; Erik Kjellström; Qiong Zhang; Johan Nilsson; Hans Renssen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Palaeoclimate; climate model; vegetation; vegetation changes; land-cover; changes; proxy data; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : Studies in paleoclimate are important because they give us knowledge about how the climate system works and puts the current climate change in necessary perspective. By studying (pre)historic periods we increase our knowledge not just about these periods, but also about the processes that are important for climatic variations and changes. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Boreal land surface water and heat balance : Modelling soil-snow-vegetation-atmosphere behaviour

    Författare :David Gustafsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; soil; snow; land surface heat exchange; forest; arable land; eddy-correlation; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Sammanfattning : The water and heat exchange in thesoil-snow-vegetation-atmosphere system was studied in order toimprove the quantitative knowledge of land surface processes.In this study, numerical simulation models and availabledatasets representing arable land, sub-alpine snowpack, andboreal forest were evaluated at both diurnal and seasonaltimescales. 3. 3. Revisiting the urban block in the light of climate change : A case study of Budapest

    Författare :Csilla V Gál; Peter Land; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Since the beginning of the twentieth century, the urban block configuration of free-standing buildings has been deemed superior to other built forms, as it provided the necessities of modern healthy living: sunlight and fresh air. In light of climate change, the dissertation aims to reevaluate these long held beliefs and to reintroduce microclimate as an urban design consideration. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Pollen-based quantitative reconstruction of land-cover change in Europe from 11,500 years ago until present - A dataset suitable for climate modelling

    Författare :Anna-Kari Trondman; Marie-José Gaillard; Chris Caseldine; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pollen data; REVEALS model; model testing; land vegetation; land-cover; Holocene; Europe;

    Sammanfattning : The major objective of this thesis was to produce descriptions of the land vegetation-cover in Europe for selected time windows of the Holocene (6000, 3000, 500, 200, and 50 calendar years before present (BP=1950)) that can be used in climate modelling. Land vegetation is part of the climate system; its changes influence climate through biogeophysical and biogeochemical processes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The role of vegetation dynamics in the control of atmospheric CO2 content

    Författare :Stephen Sitch; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atmospheric CO2 content; climate change; plant functional types; terrestrial biosphere model; DGVM; vegetation dynamics; land use; land cover change; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis contains a description of the Lund-Potsdam-Jena Dynamic Global Vegetation Model (LPJ-DGVM) and its application to infer the role of vegetation dynamics on atmospheric CO2 content at different time-scales. The model combines vegetation dynamics and biogeochemistry in a modular framework. LÄS MER
