  1. 21. Neurobiological aspects on brain function in neuro-psychiatric patients and in healthy subjects

    Författare :Karin Sparring Björkstén; Carl-Gerhard Gottfries; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The levels of insulin-like growth factor-2 (IGF-2) were assessed in lumbar cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from children with various kinds of brain damage and from Alzheimer (AD) patients and controls. Whole CSF was separated using acid gel chromatography and the presence of insulin-like growth factor binding protein and two different kinds of free IGF-2 m the CSF was established. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Leukocyte-derived matrix metalloproteinase-9 in patients with coronary artery disease : Associations with psychological stress and glucocorticoid sensitivity

    Författare :Simon Jönsson; Lena Jonasson; Anna Lundberg; Magnus Bäck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is closely associated with development of atherosclerosis. The proteolytic enzyme matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 is considered to play a prominent role in this process. MMP-9 has also been introduced as a marker for plaque vulnerability. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Feline stress : methodological considerations for non-invasive assessment of cats housed in groups and singly

    Författare :Elin Hirsch; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Group-housing of domestic cats (Felis silvestris lybica) may induce a stress response with consequences such as cats developing infectious disease or problem behaviours. Still, there is no validated behavioural protocol to assess stress in cats. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Neuroendocrinology of agonostic interaction and social signalling in Artic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) : Studies on the neuroendocrine regulation of aggressive behaviour, stress responses and skin colour

    Författare :Erik Höglund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Brain monoamines; social signalling; POMC; skin colour; stress; Salmonid; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis shows that socially subordinate Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) display elevated brain serotonergic (5-HT) and norepinephric activity along with a chronic activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-interrenal (HPI) axis, including elevated plasma concentrations of á-MSH. Furthermore, subordinate fish showed an inhibition of aggressive behaviour and darker body coloration, skin darkness being positively correlated with plasma á-MSH. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in the regulation of insulin sensitivity : an experimental study in rat and human adipocytes

    Författare :Magdalena Lundgren; Jan Eriksson; Jonas Burén; Eva Degerman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; adipose tissue; cAMP; glucocorticoids; glucose; insulin; insulin resistance; lipolysis; subcutaneous fat; type 2 diabetes; visceral fat; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity and specifically central obesity is related to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and other components of the so-called metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study was to elucidate the interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in normal and insulin-resistant fat cell metabolism. LÄS MER
