  1. 1. Neuroendocrinology of agonostic interaction and social signalling in Artic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) : Studies on the neuroendocrine regulation of aggressive behaviour, stress responses and skin colour

    Författare :Erik Höglund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Brain monoamines; social signalling; POMC; skin colour; stress; Salmonid; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis shows that socially subordinate Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) display elevated brain serotonergic (5-HT) and norepinephric activity along with a chronic activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-interrenal (HPI) axis, including elevated plasma concentrations of á-MSH. Furthermore, subordinate fish showed an inhibition of aggressive behaviour and darker body coloration, skin darkness being positively correlated with plasma á-MSH. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Maternal separation in the rat : long-term effects of early life events on emotionality, drug response and neurobiology

    Författare :Maarit Marmendal; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Early deprivation; Alcohol intake; Anxiety; Corticosterone; Maternal separation; HPA axis; Maternal care; Monoamines;

    Sammanfattning : Exposure to early stress and emotional trauma in humans are associated with an increased risk to develop psychiatric disorders, for example, anxiety, depression and drug abuse. Furthermore, disruptions in stress hormone and neurotransmitter levels as well as structural changes in the brain have been connected to early adversities. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Stress Coping Strategies in Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

    Författare :Joachim Schjolden; Svante Winberg; Felicity Huntingford; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Salmonid fish; Stress coping; Serotonin; Cortisol; Catecholamines; Monoaminoxidase; Tryptophan; Monoamines; Behaviour; Stress; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Animals show a great variety in physiological and behavioural responses to stressors. These responses are often bimodally distributed within populations and show consistency on an individual level over time and across situations, which in terrestrial vertebrates have been identified as proactive and reactive stress coping strategies. 4. 4. Experimental studies on the sources, pathways and targets for volume transmission in the rat brain

    Författare :Anders Jansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :volume transmission; extracellular space; monoamines; Dl D2 receptors; 5HT2A receptors; nitric oxide; interleukin-1ß; cholecystokinin; galanin;

    Sammanfattning : Volume transmission has been defined as the three-dimensional diffusion or convection of transmitters in the extracellular space (ECS) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) over a larger distance than the synaptic cleft. The regional localization of dopamine (DA) nerve terminals and dopamine Dl and D2 receptors in nucleus accumbens were studied in detail using double immuno-labelling. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Maternal Separation in the Rat : The Short- and Long-term effects of Early-life Experience on Neuropeptides, Monoamines and Voluntary Ethanol Consumption

    Författare :Sadia Oreland; Ingird Nylander; Joram Feldon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Early-life stress; Handling; Serotonin; Dopamine; Oxytocin; Vasopressin; Enkephalin; Dynorphin; Two-bottle free choice; Maternal deprivation; Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Pharmaceutical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Early-life experience has profound effects on the individual’s neurobiology and behaviour later in life. The rodent animal experimental model maternal separation (MS) was used to study this more in detail. The MS model involves short and prolonged postnatal separations simulating an emotionally safe and stressful environment, respectively. LÄS MER
