1. Neuroendocrinology of agonostic interaction and social signalling in Artic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) : Studies on the neuroendocrine regulation of aggressive behaviour, stress responses and skin colour
Sammanfattning : This thesis shows that socially subordinate Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) display elevated brain serotonergic (5-HT) and norepinephric activity along with a chronic activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-interrenal (HPI) axis, including elevated plasma concentrations of á-MSH. Furthermore, subordinate fish showed an inhibition of aggressive behaviour and darker body coloration, skin darkness being positively correlated with plasma á-MSH. LÄS MER
2. La letteratura postcoloniale italiana per l’infanzia (2010-2021) : Lingua, spazio, colore
Sammanfattning : Although Italian postcolonial literature, defined as literature written by migrants and second-generation migrants in Italian, has been studied broadly at least since the 2000s, Italian postcolonial literature for children has almost completely been ignored. The only monograph that has dealt with this corpus is the groundbreaking E noi? Il “posto” degli scrittori migranti nella narrativa per ragazzi by Lorenzo Luatti published in 2010. LÄS MER
3. Multivariate non-invasive measurements of skin disorders
Sammanfattning : The present thesis proposes new methods for obtaining objective and accurate diagnoses in modern healthcare. Non-invasive techniques have been used to examine or diagnose three different medical conditions, namely neuropathy among diabetics, radiotherapy induced erythema (skin redness) among breast cancer patients and diagnoses of cutaneous malignant melanoma. 4. Melanosome transfer, photoreception and toxicity assays in melanophores
Sammanfattning : Many animals such as fish and frogs have developed the ability to change colour of their skin to adapt to the environment or to signal to other individuals. This ability is due to specialised skin cells called melanophores. LÄS MER
5. People tracking by mobile robots using thermal and colour vision
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the problem of people detection and tracking by mobile robots in indoor environments. A system that can detect and recognise people is an essential part of any mobile robot that is designed to operate in populated environments. LÄS MER
