  1. 6. Inhibition of Calcium and Zinc Absorption by Phytate in Man Methodological Studies and Hydrothermal Processing of Cereals to Improve Absorption

    Författare :Kerstin Fredlund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; barley; wheat; rye; 65Zn; oats; zinc absorption; whole grains; InsP6; hydrothermal processing; calcium absorption; rice; radionuclide technique; 47Ca; extrinsic labelling; phytate; hydrothermal treatment; myo-inositol; calcium retention; whole-body counting;

    Sammanfattning : A mathematical model based on measurements in a whole-body counter described the retention of calcium in the human body. It was shown that the relative retention of intravenous and orally administered 47Ca in all subjects (n = 10 - 11) were well described by fitting a simple function of time with two free parameters to a few whole-body measurements after day 6, when the unabsorbed calcium had been excreted. 2. 7. Calcium Phosphate Based Biomaterials for Bone Augmentation

    Författare :Jun Luo; Cecilia Persson; Håkan Engqvist; Marc Bohner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bone substitute materials; calcium phosphate cements; apatite; brushite; monetite; setting mechanism; premixed; fibre reinforcement; composite; silk fibroin; mechanical properties; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Sammanfattning : Basic (apatite-based) calcium phosphate cements (CPCs), and acidic (brushite and monetite-based) CPCs are used as bone replacement materials because of their bioactivity, mouldability and ability to harden in place. However, their application is limited by their inherent brittleness and difficulties related to their handling. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Removal of Metal Ions from Wood Chips during Acidic Leaching

    Författare :Anna Saltberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Scandinavian softwood; spruce; calcium; diffusion coefficient; potassium; birch; Acidic leaching; eucalyptus; metal ions; oxalate;

    Sammanfattning : Wood chips are the main source of intake of non-process elements at kraft pulp mills. It would be advantageous to decrease the content of these elements in the chips prior to pulping. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Microstructure and Gelation Behaviour of High Methoxyl and Low Methoxyl Pectin Gels and their Mixtures

    Författare :Caroline E E Löfgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; rheology; kinetic behaviour; LM pectin; transmission electron microscopy; calcium; microstructure; gel formation; sucrose; HM pectin; pectin mixtures;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis was to explore the functional behaviour of high methoxyl (HM), low methoxyl (LM) and mixed HM/LM pectin gels of different chemical characteristics with emphasis on microstructure and kinetic rheological behaviour. The rheological properties and the structure of pectin gel networks were investigated for pectins under different sucrose, calcium and pH conditions by the means of oscillatory measurements and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). 5. 10. Fermentation of quinoa, canihua and amaranth to degrade phytate and improve mineral bioavailability

    Författare :Vanesa Castro-Alba; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Quinoa; Canihua; Amaranth; Iron; Zinc; Calcium; Phytate; Fermentation; Accessibility; Bioavailability;

    Sammanfattning : Plant-based diets are the main source of nutrients for vegetarians worldwide and for low-income inhabitants of developing countries, such as in rural areas of Bolivia. These diets may contain high levels of mineral inhibitors such as phytate that impairs mineral absorption in the human gut. LÄS MER
