  1. 1. Calcium-induced mitochondrial permeability transition in CNS-derived mitochondria - Pharmacological aspects of specificity and toxicity in neuroprotection

    Författare :Roland Månsson; Sektion IV; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cyclosporin A; mitochondria; brain; calcium; respiration; cell death; permeability transition; calcium retention; minocycline; neuroprotection; Debio 025;

    Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are the main site for energy conversion in the cell. Under certain circumstances, such as excess calcium retention or production of reactive oxygen species, a pore forms at contact sites between the outer and the normally impermeable inner mitochondrial membrane. 2. 2. Inhibition of Calcium and Zinc Absorption by Phytate in Man Methodological Studies and Hydrothermal Processing of Cereals to Improve Absorption

    Författare :Kerstin Fredlund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; barley; wheat; rye; 65Zn; oats; zinc absorption; whole grains; InsP6; hydrothermal processing; calcium absorption; rice; radionuclide technique; 47Ca; extrinsic labelling; phytate; hydrothermal treatment; myo-inositol; calcium retention; whole-body counting;

    Sammanfattning : A mathematical model based on measurements in a whole-body counter described the retention of calcium in the human body. It was shown that the relative retention of intravenous and orally administered 47Ca in all subjects (n = 10 - 11) were well described by fitting a simple function of time with two free parameters to a few whole-body measurements after day 6, when the unabsorbed calcium had been excreted. 3. 3. Studies of calcium binding proteins 1 and 2 and protein kinase CK2

    Författare :Inger Janson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; calcium binding protein 1; calcium binding protein 2; calcium binding protein 4; erd2receptor; protein kinase CK2; endoplasmic reticulum; Golgi; microsomes; heparin; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a major intracellular compartment of eukaryotic cells and is the site of the synthesis and post-translational modification of both secretory and membrane glycoproteins. Upon cell rupture vesicles of several kinds are formed from cell membranes, mainly derived from ER and are called microsomes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Fermentation of quinoa, canihua and amaranth to degrade phytate and improve mineral bioavailability

    Författare :Vanesa Castro-Alba; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Quinoa; Canihua; Amaranth; Iron; Zinc; Calcium; Phytate; Fermentation; Accessibility; Bioavailability;

    Sammanfattning : Plant-based diets are the main source of nutrients for vegetarians worldwide and for low-income inhabitants of developing countries, such as in rural areas of Bolivia. These diets may contain high levels of mineral inhibitors such as phytate that impairs mineral absorption in the human gut. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Filter beds for on-site wastewater treatment : Towards more reliable estimations of phosphorus retention

    Författare :Inga Herrmann; Petter Jenssen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Phosphorus (P) is an important plant nutrient and essential for life. However, thephosphate rock used for fertilizer production is a non-renewable resource and itsproduction is expected to peak. At the same time, the discharge of P into naturalwaters is causing eutrophication, a severe problem in areas such as the Baltic Sea. LÄS MER
