    Sammanfattning : Poly(A)-specific ribonuclease (PARN) is a eukaryotic 3’-5’exoribonuclease that removes poly(A) tails of many coding and non-coding RNAs. In this thesis, we have studied the physiological role of PARN. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Connecting Systemic RNAi to the Endomembrane System in Caenorhabditis elegans

    Författare :Benjamin T. Holmgren; Andrea Hinas; Gerhart Wagner; Peter Brodersen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systemic RNAi; RNAi inheritance; Endomembrane system; Late endosome; SID-5; SEC-22; SYX-6; C12D8.1; RNA; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : RNA interference (RNAi) is a gene regulation mechanism conserved among eukaryotes. To silence gene expression, RNAi relies on a short single-stranded guide RNA to steer the RNA-induced Silencing Complex (RISC) to mRNAs with guide strand-complementary sequences. RNAi is a highly membrane-associated process. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Functional Studies of Genes Associated with Muscle Growth in Pigs and Hair Greying in Horses

    Författare :Lin Jiang; Leif Andersson; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Gerli Pielberg; Christopher Tuggle; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Domestic animals have become very different from their wild ancestors during domestication and animal breeding. This provides a good model to unravel the molecular mechanisms underlying phenotypic variation. In my thesis I have studied genes affecting two important traits, leanness in pigs and hair greying-associated melanoma in horses. LÄS MER

  4. 9. A small amoeba at the crossroads of the big RNAi world : MicroRNA biogenesis and Argonaute function in Dictyostelium discoideum

    Författare :Zhen Liao; Fredrik Söderbom; Gerhart E. H. Wagner; Christina Dixelius; Kriton Kalantidis; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Small non-coding RNA (ncRNA) mediated gene silencing, known as RNAi, is a key regulatory mechanism of gene expression in eukaryotes. MicroRNAs (miRNA), one major type of small ncRNAs, are about 21nt long and bound by Argonaute proteins. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Tumor-stroma interactions in hepatocellular carcinoma

    Författare :Nataša Pavlović; Femke Heindryckx; Jessica Maiers; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hepatocellular carcinoma; fibrosis; endoplasmic reticulum stress; unfolded protein response; platelets; P2Y12; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a highly deadly primary liver cancer with a rising global incidence and limited therapeutic options, is characterized by a vicious cross-talk between the tumor and its surrounding hepatic stroma. The stromal environment, consisting of hepatic stellate cells (HSC), endothelial cells, resident and infiltrating macrophages and other immune cells, platelets and extracellular matrix (ECM) components, actively contributes to creating an ideal niche for tumor proliferation and invasiveness.
