  1. 21. Experimental studies of cluster ions containing water, ammonia, pyridine and bisulphate

    Författare :Mauritz Johan Ryding; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clusters; ions; water; ammonia; pyridine; bisulphate; cross sections; collision induced dissociation CID ; kinetic modelling; electrospray ionization ESI ; time-of-flight TOF ; mass spectrometry;

    Sammanfattning : Molecular cluster ions are fascinating subjects of study. Bridging the size gap between molecules and bulk, they often display non-trivial size dependent behaviour and properties. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Studies of Long-lived Radionuclides in the Environment - with Emphasis on 99Tc, 237Np and Pu Isotopes

    Författare :Patric Lindahl; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nuclear medicine; radiobiology; Nukleärmedicin; radiobiologi; atomic ratio; environmental samples; nuclear weapons fallout; Chernobyl fallout; bioindicators; activated carbon; Sellafield; plutonium; neptunium; ICP-MS; technetium;

    Sammanfattning : Studies of the long-lived anthropogenic radionuclides 99Tc, 237Np, 239Pu and 240Pu were performed in marine and terrestrial areas contaminated by different accidental and controlled releases of radioactive materials. The three main sources discussed in this thesis are nuclear weapons tests, nuclear reprocessing plants and the Chernobyl accident. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Theoretical and experimental studies of surface and interfacial phenomena involving steel surfaces

    Författare :Weimin Cao; Seshadri Seetharaman; Oleg Ostrovski; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sulfur; Oxygen; Adsorption; Iron surface; ab initio calculations; Adsorption energy; Work function; Difference charge density; Magnetic properties; Thermodynamic stability; Average velocity; Monte Carlo simulation; X-ray sessile drop method; Mass transfer; Interfacial velocity; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The present work was initiated to investigate the surface- and interfacial phenomena for iron and slag/iron systems. The aim was to understand the mechanism of the effect of surface active elements on surface and interfacial properties. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Advanced In-Core Fuel Cycles for the Gas Turbine-Modular Helium Reactor

    Författare :Alberto Talamo; Waclaw Gudowski; Kurt Kugeler; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic physics; Atomfysik;

    Sammanfattning : In 1789 a German chemist, Martin Heinrich Klaproth, announced the discovery of a new element: uranium; few years later, the head of father of the modern chemistry, Antoine Lavoisier, was swept away by guillotine: a new era was destined to be opened, either where energy would have been produced in large scale by nuclear processes delivering hundreds of times the energy of chemical processes or where a mass of people, revolutionary or not, would have been melted down into a couple of seconds. After a quite long time, on the 2nd December 1942, the first nuclear reactor has been put into operation by Enrico Fermi in Chicago; few years later, came also the dark side utilization of fissile materials in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 5. 25. Atomically Resolved ac-Mode Atomic Force Microscopy in Ultra-High Vacuum

    Författare :Lars Olsson; Franz Giessibl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : When the atomic force microscope (AFM) was invented in 1986, it was anticipated that the technique should be able to produce atomically resolved images with aquality similar to what was routinely obtained with the scanning tunnelling microscope (STM). Even though the AFM quickly became a very popular technique, the development toward ultra-high resolution imaging turned out to be slow due to problems of both fundamental and technical nature.
