1. Biosynthesis and physiological functions of N-acyl amino acids
Sammanfattning : N-acyl amino acids are lipid signalling molecules that have recently been identified in biological systems. These lipids are structurally related to the endocannabinoids, although they do not activate cannabinoid receptors. LÄS MER
2. Initiation of Protein Biosynthesis in Skeletal Muscles at Feeding
Sammanfattning : Background and aim. Artificial nutrition by intravenous feeding has for decades indicated less than optimal support of whole-body protein metabolism and balance during some treatment conditions. LÄS MER
3. Cytochrome P450 Enzymes in Bile Acid Biosynthesis and Fatty Acid Metabolism : Studies on Members of the Porcine CYP4A and CYP8B Subfamilies
Sammanfattning : The present investigation is devoted to studies on porcine members of the cytochrome P450 4A (CYP4A) and CYP8B1 subfamilies, which are involved in bile acid biosynthesis and fatty acid metabolism. Hyocholic acid is considered to fulfil the requirements for trihydroxy bile acids in the domestic pig (Sus scrofa) in the absence of cholic acid. LÄS MER
4. Design and Synthesis of Potential Aminoacyl-tRNA Synthetase Inhibitors
Sammanfattning : Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) are essential enzymes present in all living organisms, their catalytic activity is involved in the translation of the genetic code into functional proteins and they are potential targets for anti-infective agents. The first step in the biosynthetic pathway catalysed by aaRSs consists of activation of the corresponding amino acid by the reaction with ATP to form an aminoacyl-adenylate (aa-AMP), the key intermediate in the biosynthesis of proteins. 5. Cell wall biosynthesis in the pathogenic oomycete Saprolegnia parasitica
Sammanfattning : The oomycete Saprolegnia parasitica is a fungus-like microorganism responsible for the fish disease saprolegniosis, which leads to important economic losses in aquaculture. Currently, there is no efficient method to control the infection and therefore methods for disease management are urgently needed. LÄS MER
