1. Solid-phase glycoconjugate synthesis : on-resin analysis with gel-phase ¹9F NMR spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : An efficient and versatile non-destructive method to analyze the progress of solid-phase glycoconjugate synthesis with gel-phase 19F NMR spectroscopy is described. The method relies on use of fluorinated linkers and building blocks carrying fluorinated protective groups. LÄS MER
2. Passive Smoking in Children : The Importance of Parents’ Smoking and Use of Protective Measures
Sammanfattning : Passive smoking has been recognised as a health hazard, and chidren are especially vulnerable. The general aim of this thesis was to describe and analyse the importance of parents’ smoking and smoking behaviour for children’s tobacco smoke exposure. LÄS MER
3. Design and Synthesis of Potential Aminoacyl-tRNA Synthetase Inhibitors
Sammanfattning : Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) are essential enzymes present in all living organisms, their catalytic activity is involved in the translation of the genetic code into functional proteins and they are potential targets for anti-infective agents. The first step in the biosynthetic pathway catalysed by aaRSs consists of activation of the corresponding amino acid by the reaction with ATP to form an aminoacyl-adenylate (aa-AMP), the key intermediate in the biosynthesis of proteins. 4. Streptococcal protein Rib and related proteins: a family of repetitive surface proteins that elicit protective immunity
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Streptococci constitute a heterogeneous group of Gram-positive bacteria, divided into different serological groups on the basis of antigenic differences in a cell wall-associated carbohydrate. This thesis describes related surface proteins expressed by bacteria in two of these groups, the group B streptococcus (GBS) and the group A streptococcus (GAS). LÄS MER
5. Development of a new protective group for tryptophan
Sammanfattning : A new protective group for the indole nitrogen of the amino acid tryptophan, the Boc-sarcosinoyl-sarcosinolyl (Boc-Sar-Sar) is described. This protective group shows good stability to the reaction conditions used in solid phase peptide synthesis and is incorporated into the peptide as FmocTrp(BocSarSar)OH. LÄS MER
