  1. 1. Characterization of specific domains of the cellulose and chitin synthases from pathogenic oomycetes

    Författare :Christian Brown; Vincent Bulone; Carol Munro; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cellulose biosynthesis; chitin biosynthesis; cellulose synthase genes; chitin synthase genes; oomycetes; Saprolegnia monoica; Microtubule Interacting and Trafficking MIT domain; Pleckstrin Homology PH domain; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Some oomycetes species are severe pathogens of fish or crops. As such, they are responsible for important losses in the aquaculture industry as well as in agriculture. Saprolegnia parasitica is a major concern in aquaculture as there is currently no method available for controlling the diseases caused by this microorganism. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Functional characterization of cellulose and chitin synthase genes in Oomycetes

    Författare :Johanna Fugelstad; Vincent Bulone; Carol Munro; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cellulose biosynthesis; chitin biosynthesis; cellulose synthase gene; chitin synthase gene; Oomycetes; Phytophthora infestans; Saprolegnia monoica; pleckstrin homology domain; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Some species of Oomycetes are well studied pathogens that cause considerable economical losses in the agriculture and aquaculture industries. Currently, there are no chemicals available that are environmentally friendly and at the same time efficient Oomycete inhibitors. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Modulation of neutrophil extracellular trap formation in health and disease

    Författare :Ava Hosseinzadeh; Constantin F. Urban; Carol Munro; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; Candida albicans; Adenosine; Tempol; Nicotine; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The critical prompt innate immune response is highly built upon the influx of neutrophils from the blood stream to the site of infection. In the battlefield, neutrophils sense pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) through their pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) to launch a number of responses with the goal to defeat the invading pathogen. 4. 4. Cell wall biosynthesis in the pathogenic oomycete Saprolegnia parasitica

    Författare :Elzbieta Rzeszutek; Vincent Bulone; Carol Munro; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cellulose biosynthesis; chitin biosynthesis; cellulose synthase genes; chitin synthase genes; oomycetes; Saprolegnia parasitica; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : The oomycete Saprolegnia parasitica is a fungus-like microorganism responsible for the fish disease saprolegniosis, which leads to important economic losses in aquaculture. Currently, there is no efficient method to control the infection and therefore methods for disease management are urgently needed. LÄS MER
