Sammanfattning : Is flying safe? Indeed it is -- statistics tell us that it is far more dangerous to drive a car or take the train. But flight safety does not just happen. Instead, as it is argued in this book, it is created by a well-developed air traffic control system that continues to be highly effective -- despite increasing volumes of traffic. LÄS MER
2. Control of vehicle platoons and traffic dynamics : catch-up coordination and congestion dissipation
Sammanfattning : Traffic congestion is a constantly growing problem, with a wide array ofnegative effects on the society, from wasted time and productivity to elevated air pollution and increased number of accidents. Classical traffic control methods have long been successfully employed to alleviate congestion, improving the traffic situation of many cities and highways. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Introduction Risk management in enterprises, organisations and companies has had a long and complicated history. During the eighties, and at least during the beginning of the nineties, the notion concerning risk management was that if an accident happened in an otherwise perfect system it was due to the human operator in some way being the cause of the error. Sammanfattning : During the last decades anthropogenic aerosol particles have attracted much attention due to their adverse health effects and their influence of climate change, and in Sweden, there are mainly three aerosol sources that affect the air quality; domestic wood combustion, traffic, and long distance transport, which includes new particle formation. This work concerns the characterization of these sources and an estimate of how much they contribute to the aerosol particle number (ToN) and mass concentrations (PM) in Swedish cities and at background locations. 5. Semipermeable membrane devices as integrative tools for monitoring nonpolar aromatic compounds in air
Sammanfattning : Air pollutants pose a high risk for humans, and the environment, and this pollution is one of the major environmental problems facing modern society. Active air sampling is the technique that has been traditionally used to monitor nonpolar aromatic air pollutants. LÄS MER
