  1. 6. Bioactive Compounds from the Marine Sponge Geodia barretti : Characterization, Antifouling Activity and Molecular Targets

    Författare :Martin Sjögren; Lars Bohlin; Per Jonsson; Anna-Karin Borg-Karlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmacognosy; Geodia barretti; barettin; secondary metabolites; settling inhibition; Balanus improvisus; analogs; 5-HT; Farmakognosi;

    Sammanfattning : The marine sponge Geodia barretti produces a range of secondary metabolites. Two of these compounds were isolated and elucidated guided by their ability to inhibit settlement of cypris larvae of the barnacle Balanus improvisus. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Modulatory effects and interactions of substance P, dopamine and 5-HT in a neuronal network

    Författare :Erik Svensson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Lamprey; spinal cord; neuromodulation; substance P; 5-HT; dopamine;

    Sammanfattning : The spinal neuronal network that generates the locomotor rhythm in lamprey contains excitatory and inhibitory interneurons, reticulospinal inputs from the brainstem, and motor neurons. In this thesis, I have studied how the spinal locomotor network cart be modulated by a tachykinin, dopamine and 5- HT that are co-localized in midline neurons situated below the central canal. 3. 8. Reactivity of human omental blood vessels. Effects of 5-hydroxytryptamine, substance P and the intravenous anaesthetic propofol

    Författare :Susanna Wallerstedt; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensivvård; intensive care; Anaesthesiology; endothelium; calcium; human; hyperpolarization; K channels; nitric oxide; omental artery; omental vein; propofol; receptors; Anestesiologi; serotonin; sympathetic nervous system; substance P;

    Sammanfattning : Regulation of blood flow involves several endogenous substances and mechanisms, and exogenous substances may also affect the blood flow. In the present thesis, human omental blood vessels were investigated in vitro concerning (i) characteristics of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptors; (ii) mediators of substance P (SP)-induced relaxation; (iii) direct and indirect (via effects on sympathetic neurotransmission) effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol. 4. 9. Distribution of serotonin receptors and transporters in the human brain : implications for psychosis

    Författare :Katarina Varnäs; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :5-HT receptors; autoradiography; in situ hybridization histochemistry; psychotic disorders;

    Sammanfattning : The serotonin (5-HT) system is thought to be involved in different psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety disorders, and is a major target for the pharmacological treatment of these conditions. The involvement of the 5-HT system in psychosis has been suggested, as 5-HT receptor agonism is a common mechanism of different classes of hallucinogenic drugs and several antipsychotics are 5-HT receptor antagonists. 5. 10. 5-HT receptor-mediated modulation of glutamate transmission in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex and its relation to cognition and depression

    Författare :Tiberiu Loredan Stan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Depression is a multifaceted disease which is marked by cognitive and emotional memory impairments. It is characterised by an imbalacement of serotonergic and glutamatergic system in brain areas such as hippocampus and prefontal cortex. LÄS MER
