1. Monstret & människan : Paré, Deleuze och teratologiska traditioner i fransk filosofi, från renässanshumanism till posthumanism
Sammanfattning : This dissertation studies the problem of the inhuman in relation to human nature in philosophy from antiquity to the present, highlighting the interrelationship between science and philosophy in the development of concepts of monstrosity in France from mid-sixteenth century to late twentieth century thought. By means of constraint, it focuses on Ambroise Paré (1509/10–90) and Gilles Deleuze (1925–95) as representatives of early humanism and posthumanism, respectively. LÄS MER
2. Iron absorption in man - diet modification and fortification
Sammanfattning : Background: Iron (Fe) deficiency is globally the most common form of nutrient deficiency. The approach to combat this problem can be divided into two major strategies a): increasing the dietary Fe bioavailability by diet modification, or b): increasing the Fe intake through fortification. 3. Chemical characteristics of atmospheric aerosols : the influence of natural and man-made sources and sinks
Sammanfattning : In order to improve the understanding of the climatic and environmental effects of atmospheric aerosol particles, knowledge about their sources, sinks, chemical and physical characteristics as well as transportation in the atmosphere is needed. This thesis examines the water-soluble chemical characteristics of aerosol particles and precipitation and their interaction with trace gases. LÄS MER
4. Magnetic relaxation studies of self-associating and membrane proteins
Sammanfattning : Magnetic relaxation dispersion measurements have been performed on aqueous protein solutions to study the dynamics of waters in the proton transport channel of bacteriorhodopsin and the self-association of the proteins BPTI, lysozyme and beta-lactoglobulin. The measurements have focused on the bulk relaxation rates, R1 and R2, of three water nuclei 1H, 2H and 17O that are coupled to the protein environments by exchange and therefore report on properties such as the protein tumbling and dynamics of internal waters. 5. Improvement of Wastewater Sludge Digestion
Sammanfattning : The reduction of sludge volumes for disposal is a topic of high interest for wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) all over the world. Steadily increasing volumes for disposal create an economic, environmental, legislative and technological challenge. LÄS MER
