  1. 21. Nuclear Dynamics in X-ray Absorption and Raman Scattering

    Författare :Ivaylo Minkov; Faris Gelmukhanov; Knut Borve; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-ray scattering; theory; simulations; recoil; Doppler effect; nuclear dynamics; Auger; XPS; Theoretical chemistry; Teoretisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents theoretical studies of several x-ray spectroscopies - x-ray absorption, x-ray photoelectron emission, radiative and non-radiative resonant Raman scattering spectroscopy. The main focus point is investigating the influence of nuclear dynamics on these spectra for a variety of small molecules - naphthalene, biphenyl, ethylene, the water dimer, HCl, CO. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Theoretical studies of X-ray induced nuclear dynamics

    Författare :Ivaylo Minkov; Hans Ågren; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical physics; Teoretisk fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis is a theoretical study of several x-ray spectroscopies { x-ray absorption, xray photoelectron, radiative and non-radiative resonant Raman scattering spectroscopy. The main focus point is investigating the role of the nuclear dynamics in molecules (naphthalene, biphenyl, the water dimer, HCl) on these spectra. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Protein Complexity via Non-Native States: Binding, Stability, and Structural Studies of Calbindin D9k and HAMLET (Human alpha-lactalbumin Made LEthal to Tumor cells)

    Författare :Jonas Fast; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; apoptosis; oleic acid; HAMLET; kinetic trap alpha-lactalbumin; calbindin; calcium; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : Using optical spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and differential scanning Calorimetry (DSC), I have studied two different calcium binding proteins that can form kinetically trapped altered states. Calcium is very important in numerous biological processes such as blood coagulation, signal transduction, muscle contraction and bone formation. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Hydrophobic and superhydrophobic coatings for corrosion protection of steel

    Författare :Lina Ejenstam; Per M. Claesson; Agne Swerin; Jinshan Pan; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Superhydrophobic coating; hydrophobic coating; corrosion protection; contact angles; electrochemical measurements; surface characterization; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Since metals in general, and steels in particular, are vital construction materials in our modern society, the corrosion protection of said materials is of great importance, both to ensure safety and to reduce costs associated to corrosion. Previously, chromium (VI) and other harmful substances were effectively used to provide corrosion protection to steel, but since their use was heavily regulated around year 2000, no coating has yet been developed that, in a fully satisfactory manner, replaces their corrosion protective properties. 5. 25. Rat liver porin : purification, characterization and biogenesis of a channelforming outer mitochondiral membrane protein

    Författare :Monica Lindén; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The outer mitochondrial membrane has the unique property of being freely permeable to small water soluble substrate molecules. The molecular basis for this biologically important property has been investigated. LÄS MER
