  1. 16. Demand for soil, water and forest conservation in Burkina Faso

    Författare :Amadou Sidibé; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to investigate how different household characteristics and policy-relevant variables affect individual household demand and willingness to engage in natural resource conservation activities in Burkina Faso. The thesis is based on four individual studies that examine Burkina Faso, a country rich in natural resources such as soil, water, and forests. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Costs of foraging in a dry tropical environment

    Författare :Mary Molokwu; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; foraging behavior; seasonality; predation risk; granivorous birds; food availability; water; temperature; savannah; dry tropics; energy; secondary compounds; diet selection;

    Sammanfattning : This study evaluates the costs associated with foraging for birds in a savannah woodland area in central Nigeria. Specifically, it looks at the following questions: 1) how does seasonal variability in food and water availability affect the value of resources to birds in dry environments? 2) Does proximity to water affect foraging decisions? What implication will this have in the management of savannah birds? 3) Are tropical birds mostly affected by metabolic or predation costs? 4) What factors affect diet selection in birds and how? 5) How are birds adapted to hot dry environments? I carried out experiments in the field and in an aviary and provided artificial food patches, consisting of feeding trays with seeds mixed in sand or pebbles (in the aviary study). LÄS MER

  3. 18. Community Resettlement within the Context of Conservation and Development Projects : Implications on Livelihood Chances Among Rural inhabitants of Ikondokondo village in South West Cameroon

    Författare :Frankline Ndi; Paul Hebinck; Netherlands Wageningen Italy; Wageningen University Pisa Slovakia; University of Pisa Nitra Germany; Slovak University of Agriculture Berlin France; Humboldt University of Berlin Rennes Belgium; Agro campus Ouest Ghent Ghent University International Master of Science in Rural Development; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Community resettlement; Local people; Forest conservation; Livelihoods; Ikondokondo village; Cameroon;

    Sammanfattning : In Cameroon the politics of forest resource governance stands asunder with the positive value of human activity within forest systems. This is partly due to the erroneous perception amongst policymakers and project planners that local peoples’ involvement in forest systems can only be detrimental. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Plant major intrinsic proteins - functional implications of expression and localisation studies

    Författare :Laure Fraysse; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant biochemistry; immunolabelling; microarray; plasma membrane; aquaporins; plant; water; Växtbiokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Plant water channels are members of the very old Major Intrinsic Protein (MIP) family, with representatives in bacteria, fungi, animals, and plants. The genome of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana contains 35 MIP genes. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : With accelerating urbanization it is crucial to understand how urban ecosystems play a part in generating ecosystem services for urban dwellers, such as clean water, spaces for recreation, stress relief and improved air quality. An equally important question relate to who gets to enjoy these benefits, i.e. LÄS MER
