11. Studies on organochlorine environmental contaminants with emphasis on analytical methods and occurrence in humans
Sammanfattning : Methods for multicomponent analysis of lipophilic organochlorine contaminants(OCs) in blood plasma and lipid-rich tissues are presented. By using the described methods, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCN), hexachlorobenzene(HCB), 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(4 chlorophenyl)ethene (p,p'-DDE) and methylsulphonyl metabolites of PCB (MeSO2-PCB) and p,p'-DDE (Meso2-DDE) were determined in human blood plasma, adipose tissue and liver. 12. Pharmacometric Characterization of Postprandial Responses and Taste Perception in Individuals with Obesity
Sammanfattning : Obesity is a major health epidemic worldwide and occurs when long-term excess of energy intake beyond energy utilization leads to an increase in adipose tissue. Energy balance is coordinated by the central nervous system regulation of appetite and adaptive thermogenesis via a complex array of neuropeptides which communicate to the periphery by various circulating measures dictating the utilization of various energy sources such as, carbohydrates, fat, or protein. 13. T-cell specificity and regulation in atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of death in the world. The underlying cause in most cases is atherosclerosis, a chronic inflammatory disease. Subendothelial retention of lipoproteins triggers monocyte-derived macrophages and T-helper (Th) 1 cells to form lipid-laden atherosclerotic plaques in the artery wall. LÄS MER
14. Fatty acids induce potentially atherogenic changes in extracellular matrix proteoglycans
Sammanfattning : Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are associated with an increased prevalence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD). A key step in the initiation of atherogenesis is retention of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in the intima by chondroitin sulfate (CS)-rich proteoglycans (PG). LÄS MER
15. Regulation of the hepatic ACAT2 expression and roles of HNF1alhpa and HNF4alpha in cholesterol metabolism
Sammanfattning : Acyl-Coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferases (ACATs) 1 and 2 are integral membrane proteins located in rough endoplasmatic reticulum that catalyzes the formation of cholesteryl esters (CEs) from cholesterol and long-chain fatty acids. ACAT1 is present in most tissues, whereas ACAT2 is confined to enterocytes and hepatocytes. LÄS MER
