  1. 36. Novel resources enabling comparative regulomics in forest tree species

    Författare :David Sundell; Torgeir Hvidsten; Klaas Vandepoele; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Comparative genomics; Web resource; Wood development; RNA-Seq; Forestry; Lignocellulose; Regulomics; High-spatial resolution; Populus tremula; Picea abies; Orthology.; biology; biologi; molekylär bioteknik inst f nat vet biokemi ; molecular biotechnology dept of biochem ;

    Sammanfattning : Lignocellulosic plants are the most abundant source of terrestrial biomass and are one of the potential sources of renewable energy that can replace the use of fossil fuels. For a country such as Sweden, where the forest industry accounts for 10% of the total export, there would be large economical benefits associated with increased biomass yield. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Characterisation of the Clp Proteins in Arabidopsis thaliana

    Författare :Bo Zheng; Adrian K. Clarke; Vaughan Hurry; Cecilia Sundby-Emanuelsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant physiology; Arabidopsis; molecular chaperone; protein degradation; protease; Clp Hsp100; ClpP; stress response; antisense repression; chloroplast development; Växtfysiologi; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Unlike in the greenhouse, plants need to cope with many environmental stresses under natural conditions. Among these conditions are drought, waterlogging, excessive or too little light, high or low temperatures, UV irradiation, high soil salinity, and nutrient deficiency. LÄS MER

  3. 38. The Role of Proteases in Plant Development

    Författare :Maribel Garcia-Lorenzo; Christiane Funk; Zach Adam; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Comparative genomics; protease; PCD; leaf senescence; FtsH; Arabidopsis; Populus; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Proteases play key roles in plants, maintaining strict protein quality control and degrading specific sets of proteins in response to diverse environmental and developmental stimuli. Similarities and differences between the proteases expressed in different species may give valuable insights into their physiological roles and evolution. LÄS MER

  4. 39. Top-down and bottom-up effects in a Fennoscandian tundra community

    Författare :Doris Grellmann; Lars Ericson; Lauri Oksanen; Richard Inouye; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; consumer-resource interactions; exclosures; food web dynamics; grey-sided voles; lemmings; NPK-fertilization; plant defences; reindeer; soil microbes; vertebrate grazing;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis was to investigate the effects of mammalian grazers, such as microtine rodents and reindeer, (top-down effects) and nutrient availability (bottom- up effects) on the plant community of a tundra heath.I conducted a large-scale fertilization experiment and studied the impact of grazers using exclosures. 5. 40. Det upphöjda landet : vetenskapen, landhöjningsfrågan och kartläggningen av Sveriges förflutna, 1860-1930

    Författare :Christer Nordlund; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; History of science; environmental history; Quaternary geology; plant geography; archaeology; landscape; highest shoreline; land elevation; shoreline displacement; naturai landmarks; archaeological fìndings; scientific practice; thought collective; nationalism.;

    Sammanfattning : Taking the establishment of Ice Age theory as its point of departure, the present dissertation examines aspects of geological, plant geographical and archaeological research on shoreline displacement conducted in Sweden during the period 1860-1930, and the significance of this research for the perception of "the Swedish landscape" and its post-glacial history. The research is analyzed on three levels under the rubrics "The Highest Shoreline and the Ancylus Lake", "The Question of Land Elevation", and "Charting Swedens Past", respectively. LÄS MER
