  1. 1. To “leaf” or not to “leaf” : Understanding the metabolic adjustments associated with leaf senescence

    Författare :Daria Chrobok; Olivier Keech; Per Gardeström; David Macherel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; metabolism; mitochondria; senescence; biology; biologi;

    Sammanfattning : The adequate execution of the final developmental stage of a leaf, leaf senescence, is crucial to the long-term survival of the plant. During senescence cellular structures like membranes, proteins, lipids and macromolecules are degraded and released nutrients are relocated to developing parts of the plant, such as young leaves, stems, flowers, siliques and ultimately seeds that are dependent on this nutrient remobilization. 2. 2. From green to yellow : a leaf story

    Författare :Olivier Keech; Per Gardeström; Pierre Dizengremel; Lee Sweetlove; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; chloroplasts; cytoskeleton; darkness; metabolism; microscopy; mitochondria; microtubules; senescence; system redox; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : När ett blad gulnar genomgår det både morfologiska och metaboliska förändringar. Denna process benämns senescence och en förbättrad förståelse av dess mekanismer är viktiga både ur ett grundvetenskapligt perspektiv och för potentiella bioteknologiska applikationer. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Shedding Light on Shade- and Dark-Induced Leaf Senescence

    Författare :Bastiaan Brouwer; Per Gardeström; Karin Krupinska; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis; darkness; light; photosynthesis; phytochrome; shade; senescence;

    Sammanfattning : Leaf senescence is the final stage of leaf development, during which the leaf relocates most of itsvaluable nutrients to developing or storing parts of the plant. As this process progresses, leaves losetheir green color and their capacity to perform photosynthesis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Regulatory Control of Autumn Senescence in Populus tremula

    Författare :Edlund Erik; Stefan Jansson; Paul Dijkwel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Aspens; Girdling; Anthocyanins; Arginine; Autumn Senescence; Cytokinins; Populus tremula; Asp; Ringbarkning; Antocyanin; Arginin; Höstlöv; Cytokinin; Populus tremula; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : Autumn senescence is a visually spectacular phenomenon in which trees prepare for the oncoming winter. The mechanism for regulation of autumn senescence in trees has been very hard to pinpoint. In this thesis the main focus is to investigate how autumn senescence is regulated in aspens (Populus tremula). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Constructing a timetable of autumn senescence in aspen

    Författare :Johanna Keskitalo; Stefan Jansson; Howard Thomas; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Populus tremula; autumn senescence; senescence-associated genes; cellular timetable; transcriptional timetable; cDNA microarrays; EST sequencing; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : During the development and lifecycle of multicellular organisms, cells have to die, and this occurs by a process called programmed cell death or PCD, which can be separated from necrosis or accidental cell death (Pennell and Lamb, 1997). Senescence is the terminal phase in the development of an organism, organ, tissue or cell, where nutrients are remobilized from the senescing parts of the plant into other parts, and the cells of the senescing organ or tissue undergo PCD if the process is not reversed in time.
