6. Novel Technique for Analysing Volatile Compounds in Indoor Dust : Application of Gas Chromatography – UV Spectrometry to the Study of Building-Related Illness
Sammanfattning : It is now generally acknowledged that particulate air pollution can cause respiratory symptoms and that indoor dust particles may be associated with mucous membrane irritation and odour annoyance. One reason for this may be that dust particles adsorb large quantities of gases and other volatile compounds. LÄS MER
7. Temperature effects on UV-B induced DNA damage and repair in plants and a lichen
Sammanfattning : All living organisms have DNA and since DNA is essential to life it must be repaired when damaged. UV radiation is one of the major DNA damaging agents, which photosynthetic organisms cannot avoid. LÄS MER
8. Effects of enhanced ultraviolet-B radiation on subarctic ecosystems
Sammanfattning : Biologically harmful ultraviolet-B radiation (UV-B, 280-320 nm) is increasing at the Earth´s surface owing to stratospheric ozone depletion. This is of global concern due to potential impacts of enhanced UV-B radiation on the biosphere. LÄS MER
9. Molecular responses of plants to solar UV-B and UV-A radiation
Sammanfattning : Plant responses to solar ultraviolet radiation (UV, 280-400 nm) were assessed at different molecular levels using Betula pendula Roth (silver birch) and Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis) as model species in outdoor experiments to assess the possibly interacting roles of the UV-B and UV-A wavebands in acclimation to sunlight. Solar UV-B (280-315 nm) and UV-A (315-400 nm) irradiance was attenuated with plastic films. LÄS MER
10. Ultraviolet Radiation and Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Human Skin
Sammanfattning : Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is a major risk factor for development of skin cancer. UVR-induced DNA damage and a dysfunctional p53 protein are important steps in the development of squamous cell carcinoman in human skin (SCC). LÄS MER
