  1. 6. Small Molecules as Tools in Biological Chemistry : Effects of Synthetic and Natural Products on the Type III Secretion System

    Författare :Caroline E. Zetterström; Mikael Elofsson; Samuel I. Miller; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Type III secretion; salicylidene acylhydrazide; virulence-blocker; virulence; inhibitor; target identification; neohopeaphenol A; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Escherichia coli; biologisk kemi; biological chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing use of antibiotics has led to a huge problem for society, as some bacteria have developed resistance towards many of the antibiotics currently available. To help find solutions to this problem we studied small molecules that inhibit bacterial virulence, the ability to cause disease. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Biogenesis, function and regulation of the type III secretion translocon of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis

    Författare :Salah I. Farag; Matthew S Francis; Jörgen Johansson; Åke Forsberg; Luís Jaime Mota; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Many Gram negative bacteria use type III secretion systems to cross-talk with eukaryotic cells. Type III secretion system assembly and function is tightly regulated. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Timing and targeting of Type III secretion translocation of virulence effectors in Yersinia

    Författare :Sofie Ekestubbe; Åke Forsberg; Roland Rosqvist; Maria Fällman; Kurt Schesser; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The Type III secretion system (T3SS) is an important virulence mechanism that allows pathogenic bacteria to translocate virulence effectors directly into the cytoplasm of eukaryotic host cells to manipulate the host cells in favor of the pathogen. Enteropathogenic Yersinia pseudotuberculosis use a T3SS to translocate effectors, Yops, that prevent phagocytosis by immune cells, and is largely dependent on it to establish and sustain an infection in the lymphoid tissues of a mammalian host. 4. 9. Type III secretion- the various functions of the translocon operon in bacterial pathogenesis

    Författare :Jeanette E Bröms; Åke Forsberg; Michael Koomey; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Yersinia; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; type III secretion; chaperone; translocation; regulation; lcrGVHyopBD; pcrGVHpopBD; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : In order to establish colonisation of a human host, pathogenic Yersinia use a type III protein secretion system to directly intoxicate host immune cells. Activation of this system requires target cell contact and is a highly regulated process. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Regulation of the multi-functional protein YscU in assembly of the Yersinia type III secretion injectisome

    Författare :Ho Ngoc Hoang Oanh; Magnus Wolf-Watz; Anna Linusson Jonsson; Maria Sunnerhagen; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Yersinia pseudotuberculosis is a Gram-negative zoonotic pathogenic bacterium causing gastroenteritis in human and animals. It shares a conserved virulence plasmid encoding for a needle-like secretion machinery, or type III secretion system, which can be found in other pathogenic Gram-negative bacteria. LÄS MER
