21. Fortification of soil-based wastewater treatment systems with versatile ubiquitous reactive media for enhanced removal of phosphorus and other pollutants
Sammanfattning : Concerns about potential risks posed by discharge from small-scale wastewater treatment (SWT) systems to receiving water bodies have prompted robust enforcement of national discharge quality standards in rural areas of most developed countries. Consequently, communities in such places are in need of effective technologies with which to achieve compliance. LÄS MER
22. Oviposition cues as a tool for developing a new malaria control strategy
Sammanfattning : Anopheles gambiae sensu lato mosquitoes are among the dominant malaria vectors in sub-Saharan Africa. However, not much is known about the oviposition behaviour of these species necessary for the development of malaria vector control strategies. LÄS MER
23. Sediment resuspension : Impacts and extent of human disturbances
Sammanfattning : Resuspension of sediment by anthropogenic disturbances is a concern due to the impacts it has on organisms and ecosystems. Bottom trawling is one major cause of sediment resuspension. A field study showed that a small trawl created a sediment plume 120 - 150 m wide and 15-18 m high (Paper 1). The sediment in the same study was highly contaminated. LÄS MER
24. Microsieving in municipal wastewater treatment : Chemically enhanced primary and tertiary treatment
Sammanfattning : Municipal wastewater treatment plants are constantly forced to make improvements. The main objectives are to reduce energy consumption, to increase the treatment capacity and to improve the effluent water quality. Microsieves in combination with chemical pretreatment can potentially fulfil these objectives. LÄS MER
25. Towards More Specific Microcalorimetric Studies With Special Emphasis on Biological Systems
Sammanfattning : A new approach in isothermal heat conduction microcalorimetric studies of chemical and biological processes is explored. The general (non-specific) method of calorimetry is combined with more specific analytical methods of analysis to "multi-functional microcalorimetric process monitors". LÄS MER
