  1. 1. Fortification of soil-based wastewater treatment systems with versatile ubiquitous reactive media for enhanced removal of phosphorus and other pollutants

    Författare :Ezekiel Kholoma; Gunno Renman; Agnieszka Renman; Haniso Motlhabane; Mark Healy; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biochar; Fortified filter; Gas concrete; Phosphorus removal; Reactive filter media; Wastewater treatment; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Concerns about potential risks posed by discharge from small-scale wastewater treatment (SWT) systems to receiving water bodies have prompted robust enforcement of national discharge quality standards in rural areas of most developed countries. Consequently, communities in such places are in need of effective technologies with which to achieve compliance. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modelling phosphorus dynamics in constructed wetlands upgraded with reactive filter media

    Författare :Rajabu Hamisi; Gunno Renman; Berit Balfors; Roger Thunvik; Steve W. Lyon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Constructed Wetland; COMSOL; Modelling; Reactive Solute Transport; Sorption Process; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Developing low-cost and effective technologies to upgrade phosphorus (P) removal from the catchment runoffs and rural wastewater treatment facilities is one of the main research agendas to save the Baltic Sea from eutrophication. In Sweden, the construction of the constructed wetlands has been one of the environmental objectives for wastewater quality improvement in the small communities. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Phosphorus recycling from wastewater to agriculture using reactive filter media

    Författare :Victor Cucarella Cabañas; Gunno Renman; Dan Berggren Kleja; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Filtra P; phosphorus; Polonite; recycling; sorption; wollastonite; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focused on testing the suitability of reactive filter media used for phosphorus (P) removal from wastewater as fertilizers, thus recycling P to agriculture. The work compared the P sorption capacity of several materials in order to assess their suitability as a source of P for plants. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Engineered Wetlands and Reactive Bed Filters for Treatment of Landfill Leachate

    Författare :Agnieszka Kietliñska; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Blast furnace slag; Compact constructed wetland; Metals; Nitrogen; Polonite; Sorbents;

    Sammanfattning : The main objectives of this study were to investigate (i) anovel wetland treatment technology and (ii) selected bed filtermedia for the removal of contaminants from landfill leachate. Areview of the literature concerning experiences of the use ofconstructed wetlands (CW) for the removal of nitrogen fromlandfill leachate, showed that at least three groups oftreatment systems are in practice: sub-surface flow wetlands,hybrid systems (a combination of vertical and horizontal flowwetlands) and, compact constructed wetland (CCW). 5. 5. Bed filters for phosphorus removal in on-site wastewater treatment : Removal mechanisms and sustainability

    Författare :David Eveborn; Jon Petter Gustafsson; Gunno Renman; Erik Kärrman; Lars Lövgren; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; On-site wastewater treatment; Eutrophication; Environmental impact assessment; Phosphorus removal mechanisms; Soil infiltration; Reactive bed filters; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik; Soil chemistry; Markkemi;

    Sammanfattning : For many surface waters, phosphorus (P) leaching is a serious problem that should be minimized to prevent eutrophication. In Sweden there is a demand for physical and technical development of high-performance P removal techniques to reduce phosphorus leaching from on-site wastewater treatment systems to the Baltic Sea.
