6. Ventilatory aspects of sleep and activity in patients with neuromuscular disorders
Sammanfattning : Patients with cervical cord injuries (M) and slowly progressive neuromuscular diseases, such as prior polio and muscular dystrophy, often have decreased ventilatory capacity. This could affect both their daytime level of activity and sleep quality. LÄS MER
7. Pedicled and free TRAM flaps in breast reconstructions : a comparative study
Sammanfattning : The transverse rectus abdominis musculocutaneous (TRAM) flap is frequently used when autologous tissue is desired for breast reconstruction, and it can be transferred pedicled or free. The pedicled TRAM flap is elevated as a lower transverse abdominal flap with the rectus abdominis muscle attached in the epigastric area, by which means the deep superior epigastric vessels nourish the flap. 8. Neuromechanical control of the spine
Sammanfattning : Control of the spine is complex. The spine is inherently unstable and dependent on the contribution of muscles. Yet there is considerable redundancy in the motor system with many muscles that act on the trunk. LÄS MER
9. Performance and trainability in paraplegics : motor function, shoulder muscle strength and sitting balance before and after kayak ergometer training
Sammanfattning : Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in a complete or partial loss of motor and/or sensory function below the injury level. An SCI causes extensive functional impairment compelling many persons to wheelchair usage. LÄS MER
10. Altered movement patterns and deviating muscular activity in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament injury
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to increase the understanding of altered movement patterns in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in order to improve ACL rehabilitation, and to develop an observational instrument termed Test for Substitution Patterns (TSP) for standardized, quantifiable scoring of altered movement patterns in legs and trunk. In all, 142 participants, 93 with ACL-rupture (37 women) and 49 uninjured participants were investigated. LÄS MER
