1. EMG and strength in trunk and hip muscles
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to study the myouelectric activity of all major muscles involved in the movements and stabilization of the trunk, pelvis and hips during training exercises, postures, motor tasks, maximal strength performance and locomotion. By use of ultra-sound, EMG electrodes could be guided safely and accurately into muscles situated even close to the spinal column, such as psoas, quadratus lumborum and deep parts of erector spinae. 2. Spinal mobility, muscle strength and function in patients with idiopathic scoliosis. Different aspects on long term outcome
Sammanfattning : Introduction: The long-term physical function outcome in patients treated for idiopathic scoliosis (IS) during childhood and adolescence has not been fully explored. In addition, there is a lack of studies where different methods to measure pulmonary function are validated in patients with early onset scoliosis. LÄS MER
3. Altered body composition in adults with complex congenital heart disease
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Thanks to achievements in paediatric heart surgery and medicine, the population of adults with surgically repaired or palliated congenital heart defects is growing. Many of these adults have reduced exercise capacity, weaker muscular strength and shorter height, all of which suggest an altered body composition. LÄS MER
4. Physical performance, pain and pool exercise in individuals with late effects of polio
Sammanfattning : The overall purpose of the studies was to obtain knowledge about physical performance and related factors in individuals with late effects of polio. The specific aims were to provide a description of pain and how it is related to the effects of polio and the physical activity of the individual; to evaluate physical performance, the effect of reduced muscle strength on walking performance, and to study the impact of pool exercise. 5. Postural balance, physical activity and capacity among young people with intellectual disability
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate postural balance, physical activity, physical capacity and their associations in young people (16-20 years) with intellectual disability (ID), mild to moderate. The aim was also to study the reliability and concurrent validity of postural balance tests. LÄS MER
