  1. 6. Transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) expression : the role of histone modification and alternative splicing

    Författare :Zheng Ge; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Telomerase, an RNA-dependent DNA polymerase responsible for telomeric DNA elongation, is silent in most normal differentiated human cells due to the tight repression of its catalytic unit, telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), whereas constitutive hTERT expression and telomerase activation are prerequisites for cellular immortalization/malignant transformation. As reconfiguration of chromatin acts like a master on/off switch, determining whether particular genes are active or inactive, the project was specifically designed to first elucidate molecular strategies that integrate diverse signalling pathways at the hTERT chromatin and consequently result in telomerase activation or repression in normal and malignant human cells. 2. 7. Functional studies of Mediator in Arabidopsis thaliana and Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Nils Elfving; Stefan Björklund; Jesper Svejstrup; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Transcriptional regulation; chromatin; stress; Pol II; mediator; DREB2A; ZFHD1; MYB-like; Msn2; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Mediator has been shown to be essential for regulation of RNA Polymerase II mediated transcription. Mediator functions as an interface between the general transcriptional machinery and a multitude of DNA binding transcriptional regulators, although the molecular mechanism for the process is elusive. 3. 8. Regulation of the Epstein-Barr virus C promoter by the OriP-EBNA1 complex

    Författare :Cecilia Boreström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Epstein-Barr virus; EBNA1; NF-Y; Sp1; Oct-2; Bright; E2F1; transcriptional regulation; Cp; oriP;

    Sammanfattning : Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) is an exclusively human, lymphotropic herpes virus that infects more than 90% of the population worldwide. Primary infection usually occurs during the early years of life and does not result in any recognized disease. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Transcriptional, epigenetic and lipidomic responses to metabolic interventions : implications for human obesity

    Författare :Carolina Nylén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is increasing worldwide in an epidemic manner and better prevention and treatments are urgently needed. Obesity is strongly associated with insulin resistance and predisposes for type 2 diabetes. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Differential maturation of Na+,K+-ATPase in the rat : transcriptional regulation by glucocorticoids

    Författare :Zheng-Ming Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :glucocorticoids; ontogeny; Na ; K -ATPase; H ; K -ATPase; iontransporter; kidney; lung; heart; stomach; colon.;

    Sammanfattning : Na+,K+-ATPase is a ubiquitous transmembrane enzyme that creates the electrochemical gradient across the cell membrane. Na+,K+-ATPase activity is low in many immature tissues. LÄS MER
