  1. 21. Analysis of Two Transcriptional Regulators that Affect Meristem Function : Arabidopsis thaliana TERMINAL FLOWER2 and Picea abies APETELA2

    Författare :Lars Nilsson; Annika Sundås Larsson; Peter Engström; Thomas Laux; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Developmental biology; Arabidopsis thaliana; Picea abies; gene regulation; development; meristem; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aerial plant body is derived from undifferentiated cells in the shoot apical meristem that in Arabidopsis thaliana is active throughout the plant life cycle. Upon transition to flowering the activity of the meristem is altered and the meristem starts to produce secondary inflorescences and floral meristems instead of leaves. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) expression : the role of histone modification and alternative splicing

    Författare :Zheng Ge; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Telomerase, an RNA-dependent DNA polymerase responsible for telomeric DNA elongation, is silent in most normal differentiated human cells due to the tight repression of its catalytic unit, telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), whereas constitutive hTERT expression and telomerase activation are prerequisites for cellular immortalization/malignant transformation. As reconfiguration of chromatin acts like a master on/off switch, determining whether particular genes are active or inactive, the project was specifically designed to first elucidate molecular strategies that integrate diverse signalling pathways at the hTERT chromatin and consequently result in telomerase activation or repression in normal and malignant human cells. 3. 23. The interplay of transcription and chromatin regulation during embryonic development

    Författare :George Hunt; Mattias Mannervik; Eileen Furlong; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transcription; chromatin; chromatin-modifiers; p300 CBP; Polycomb repression; promoter proximal Pol II pausing; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : A fascinating aspect of multicellular development is the production of diverse cell types from an identical DNA genome, which depends on the ability to express different complements of genes across space and time. This thesis tries to address how the genome, within the chromatin structure that envelops it, is regulated to direct this complex process. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Deciphering control of Mechano-Transcription Activators of σ54-RNA polymerase

    Författare :Henrik Seibt; Victoria Shingler; Uwe H. Sauer; Ray Dixon; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transcriptional regulation; P. putida; V. cholerae; AAA ; bEBP; B-linker; DmpR; Phenol catabolism; VCA0117; Type VI secretion; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : To survive and proliferate, bacteria have to respond to a plethora of fluctuating signals within their habitats. Transcriptional control is one crucial entry point for such signal-responsive adaption responses. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Studies of the chromatin form of yeast Mediator and the function of its tail module

    Författare :Miriam Nilsson; Stefan Björklund; Claes Gustafsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mediator complex; Transcriptional regulation; yeast; tail module; transcription; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Mediator is a large, multifunctional complex that is conserved in eukaryotes. It was first discovered in Saccharomyces cerevisiaeas required for transcriptional activators to function in a reconstituted in vitro system. Mediator is also important for stimulation of basal, unregulated transcription, and transcriptional repression. LÄS MER
