6. Assay development for studies of G protein-coupled receptors at the single-molecule level
Sammanfattning : G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), also known as seven transmembrane (7TM) receptors,is the largest family of cell surface receptors. These receptors play a key role in transmittinga wide variety of signals across the cell membrane and are involved in physiologicalprocesses such as sensory transduction, cell-cell communication, neuronal transmission, and hormonal signaling. 7. Virus-cell membrane interactions - Binding studies of Herpes Simplex Virus using surface-sensitive techniques
Sammanfattning : Viruses are parasites capable of infecting all forms of life. They lack the ability to replicate by themselves and therefore hijack the replication machinery of cells to produce new viral copies, called virions. LÄS MER
8. Tethered Lipid Vesicles as Nanoscale Sensor Elements
Sammanfattning : The primary aim of this thesis work has been to explore and advance the potential of surface tethered lipid vesicles as a platform for studying in particular the following three biomembrane-related processes: trans-membrane transport, membrane-peptide interactions and the activity of membrane active enzymes. First, a method based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy was developed for studying passive diffusion processes as well as the membrane-protein mediated transport of small non electrolyte molecules across lipid bilayers. 9. Mechanisms of Integrin Signal Transduction
Sammanfattning : Integrins are a protein family of cell surface receptors, expressed in all cell types in the human body, except the red blood cells. Besides their importance in mediating physical connections with the surrounding environment, the integrin family members are also vital signalling mediators. LÄS MER
