  1. 1. Fractionation of Cu and Fe isotopes in metal-rich mine sites : biotic and abiotic processes

    Författare :Nathalie Pérez Rodríguez; Magnus Land; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cu and Fe isotopes; fractionation; tailings; plants; phytoremediation; organic amendments; soil bacteria; Cu and Fe cycle; covellite; redox processes; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : After mineral exploitation the residual grinded and milled material, rich in sulphide minerals and heavy metals, is often left exposed to the atmospheric variables. This weathered mine waste material can lead to the formation of acid mine drainage (AMD) which has negative effects to the environment. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Fractionation of Fe and Zn isotopes : methods and some applications in aqueous geochemistry

    Författare :Dmitry Malinovskiy; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICPMS) has been used for the measurement of Fe and Zn isotope ratios in a variety of sample types including natural and synthetic waters, ferromanganese concretions, sediments and biological material. The focus of this PhD study was the development of analytical procedures for precise and accurate measurement of Fe and Zn isotope ratios by high resolution MC-ICPMS. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Fractionation of the stable silicon isotopes : analytical method developments and selected applications in geochemistry

    Författare :Emma Engström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : During the last few decades, variations in the 'natural' isotopic abundances of stable elements (termed 'fractionation') have received considerable interest from the scientific community. Though analytical methods and techniques for the measurement of isotopic abundances with adequate figures of merit have been available for light elements (e.g. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Stable and radiogenic isotopes as tracers for geochemical processes in mineralogically-complex mine waste environments : Insights from 13C, 2H, 18O, 34S and 87Sr/86Sr

    Författare :Musah Salifu; Lena Alakangas; Maria Nieves Otero Perez; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Mining and its related activities generate large volumes of mine wastes such as tailings that can have negative environmental implications. One of such mine wastes of potential environmental concern is the historical Yxsjöberg Cu-W-F skarn tailings in Sweden, which encompasses a complex mineralogy including sulphides, carbonates, silicates, oxides / wolframite and halides. 5. 5. Biotic and abiotic isotope fractionation of copper and iron : From the lab to the field scale

    Författare :Nathalie Pérez Rodríguez; Dominik Weiss; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : The distribution of the stable isotopes of Cu and Fe in nature is susceptible to isotope fractionation processes during the biogeochemical cycle. Since Cu and Fe are redox sensitive metals, differences in their oxidation states can lead to variations in the stable isotope composition of the aquatic species or compounds that they form. LÄS MER
