  1. 16. Predicting transmembrane topology and signal peptides with hidden Markov models

    Författare :Lukas Käll; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Membrane protein; signal peptide; hidden Markov model; bioinformatics;

    Sammanfattning : Transmembrane proteins make up a large and important class of proteins. About 20% of all genes encode transmembrane proteins. They control both substances and information going in and out of a cell. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Inverse Problems in Analytic Interpolation for Robust Control and Spectral Estimation

    Författare :Johan Karlsson; Anders Lindquist; Alberto Isidori; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nevanlinna-Pick Interpolation; Approximation; Model Reduction; Robust Control; Gap-robustness; Sensitivity Shaping; Entropy functional; Spectral Estimation; Weak*-topology; Monge-Kantorovic Transportation; Optimization; systems theory; Optimeringslära; systemteori;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is divided into two parts. The first part deals with theNevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem, a problem which occursnaturally in several applications such as robust control, signalprocessing and circuit theory. We consider the problem of shaping andapproximating solutions to the Nevanlinna-Pick problem in a systematicway. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Developments of Topology Optimization Methods for Additive Manufacturing involving High-cycle Fatigue

    Författare :Shyam Suresh; Anders Klarbring; Stefan Lindström; Carl-Johan Thore; Bo Torstenfelt; Mathias Wallin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Additive manufacturing (AM) is a versatile manufacturing process which is gaining popularity in the automotive and aerospace industries. Through AM one can manufacture complex structures and combined with topology optimization (TO) a powerful design tool that provides great freedom in geometric form emerges. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Mapping the human proteome using bioinformatic methods

    Författare :Linn Fagerberg; Mathias Uhlén; Alvis Brazma; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proteome; transcriptome; bioinformatics; membrane protein prediction; subcellular localization; protein expression level; cell line; immunohistochemistry; immunofluorescence; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The fundamental goal of proteomics is to gain an understanding of the expression and function of the proteome on the level of individual proteins, on the level of defined cell types and on the level of the entire organism. In this thesis, the human proteome is explored using membrane protein topology prediction methods to define the human membrane proteome and by global protein expression profiling, which relies on a complex study of the location and expression levels of proteins in tissues and cells. 5. 20. Molecular studies of the hepatitis C virus : the role of IRES activity for therapy response, and the impact of the non-structural protein

    Författare :Hannah Kim Lindström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hepatitis C virus; IRES; viral translation; dual luciferase assay; therapy response; NS4B; topology; membrane rearrangements; membrane associated foci; Immunofluorescence; oligomerization; viral replication; bi-cistronic subgenomic replicon; replicon complex; mutations;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic hepatitis C can lead to life threatening conditions like cirrhosis, liver failure and hepatocellular carcinoma. There are an estimated 170 million chronic carriers of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) world wide, making it a serious global health problem. LÄS MER
