  1. 1. DNA-Controlled Lipid-Membrane Fusion

    Författare :Lisa Simonsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exocytosis; vesicles; DNA; FRET; fluorescence resonance energy transfer; model system; total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy; TIRF microscopy; self-assembly; site-specificity; diffusion; biomembranes; lipid bilayer; membrane fusion;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. We have demonstrated that short DNA oligonucleotides, membrane-attached via CH in an orientation that mimics the overall zipperlike architecture of fusion-inducing proteins, induce fusion of both suspended vesicles and vesicles site-specifically tethered to SLBs. 2. 2. Topology and membrane rearrangements of the hepatitis C virus protein NS4B

    Författare :Marika Lundin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hepatitis C virus; NS4B; NS5A; topology; posttranslational translocation membrane rearrangements; endoplasmic reticulum; polyprotein; membrane protein; membrane associated foci; oligomerization; viral replication; replicon; replication complex; mutations; immunoprecipitation;

    Sammanfattning : Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major cause of chronic liver disease and viral hepatitis around the world. Approximately 180 million people or 3% of the world's population are infected with the virus. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Visualizing structural dynamics: from small molecules to membrane proteins

    Författare :Magnus Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane protein; bacteriorhodopsin; proteorhodopsin; halorhodopsin; structural dynamics; time-resolved X-ray scattering;

    Sammanfattning : To fully understand the mechanism of a chemical reaction, it is important to characterize the rapid structural dynamics of transient chemical species as the reaction propagates. Since chemical processes are heavily influenced by the solvent in which they occur, the interaction with the surrounding solution also needs to be elucidated. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Intra- and intermolecular interactions in proteins : Studies of marginally hydrophobic transmembrane alpha-helices and protein-protein interactions

    Författare :Linnea E Hedin; Arne Elofsson; Susana Cristobal; Ismael Mingarro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane proteins; membrane insertion; marginally hydrophobic helix; hydrophobicity; protein-protein interactions; LacY; GltPh; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Most of the processes in a living cell are carried out by proteins. Depending on the needs of the cell, different proteins will interact and form the molecular machines demanded for the moment. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Membrane Induced Structure in Transmembrane Signaling Proteins and Peptides : Peptide–Lipid Interactions Studied by Spectroscopic Methods

    Författare :Sofia E. Unnerståle; Lena Mäler; Jason Schnell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peptide-lipid interaction; paddle domain; voltage gating; voltage sensor domain; micelle; phospholipid bicelle; solution structure; HAMP domain; nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; circular dichroism spectroscopy; nonspecific interaction; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Biological membranes, defining the boundary of cells and eukaryotic organelles, are mainly composed of lipids and membrane proteins. Interactions between these lipids and proteins are needed to preserve the tight seal of the membrane, but also to induce structure for proper function in many membrane proteins. LÄS MER
