1. Factors affecting body weight development and eating behaviour in patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis treatment
Sammanfattning : Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and hemodialysis (HD) have different metabolic effects in dialysis patients, since absorption of intraperitoneal glucose implies an additional energy source in CAPD patients. In spite of this, protein-energy malnutrition is known to occur frequently, both in patients on hemodialysis and in patients on CAPD, and an association with increased morbidity and mortality is well established. 2. Intracellular free amino acids and nutritional status in children with chronic renal failure on different treatments
Sammanfattning : In untreated adult patients with chronic renal failure (CRF), and in chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and kidney-transplanted patients, typical plasma and muscle intracellular amino acid (AA) patterns have been described. Similar AA abnormalities to those seen in adult patients have been observed in plasma and muscle tissue of children with CRF, but no studies have been undertaken to evaluate the AA levels in plasma and muscle in children on CAPD or after kidney transplantation. 3. Renal and extrarenal signs of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease
Sammanfattning : The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical impact of renal and extrarenal manifestations of ADPKD (Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease). For this purpose, prospective and retrospective analyses of patients with ADPKD in different populations were performed. LÄS MER
4. Mathematical modeling of fluid and solute transport in peritoneal dialysis
Sammanfattning : Optimization of peritoneal dialysis schedule and dialysis fluid composition needs, among others, methods for quantitative assessment of fluid and solute transport. Furthermore, an integrative quantitative description of physiological processes within the tissue, which contribute to the net transfer of fluid and solutes, is necessary for interpretation of the data and for predictions of the outcome of possible intervention into the peritoneal transport system. 5. Impact of renal dysfunction on serum Prostate-Specific Antigen
Sammanfattning : Measurement of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in blood is an important tool in detection for prostate cancer. PSA occurs in several molecular forms in blood: mainly as a free form with a molecular mass of 28 kDa; and as PSA complexed to alpha-1-antichymotrypsin, complexed PSA, with a molecular mass of 90 kDa.
